Think Shanahan will do a favor for Kittle and run the 4 TE formation on national TE day?

It's looking like we'll keep only 3 TEs, but I wouldn't be against keeping a 4th over a WR.

Kittle and Reed are obvious, I'm guessing you were putting Dwelley in as #3?

Woerner has earned raves from camp for his inline and space blocking, and I think Trent Williams said he was maybe the best blocker in camp.

With Dwelley and Reed being mostly receivers do the 49ers choose to go into the season with only Kittle as a good blocking TE?

I think 4 TEs is not unlikely.

You know Person retired right?

Person retired after he was cut. I bet he would have stuck out another year on the Niners.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Person would have been any kind of solution. Just that he was better than Compton.

I liked the McKivitz pick because he's super smart and is 100% dog, I figured he'd be a multi-year development player who could eventually earn some PT. But I'm surprised he's done as well as he has in camp. To start he was apparently getting his butt kicked all over the place, but has significantly impressed as camp has gone on. He may make the roster and be the first OL off the bench for the first couple games. He CAN play anywhere on the line, but I think he's most likely a right guard in the NFL.

It just re-iterates that the Lynchahan value OTs and Cs but the guard positions they are fine with journeymen taking up the snaps.

Need to find a replacement for Richburg ... he costs too much and misses too many games.

Williams, Tomlinson, Richburg, Brunskill, McGlinchey is a good line.

Skule, Compton, Garland, McKivitz is pretty meh. Cheap and functional may be the best NFL teams can do these days and that group is cheap and functional.

Garland may be the most critical because of Richburg's injury history. Skule will be important as I assume the starting OTs will miss at least 3 games.

I tend to agree they will keep four. With the weakness at WR, I think they'll deploy Reed almost more like a WR early in the year. And I can't see them cutting Woerner with their love of blocking TEs. If we only keep three, I think Dwelley could be the odd man out. And I think Harrell makes the PS.

I didn't like the McKivitz pick if they envisioned him at tackle. Fine with it at guard. And he was getting his butt kicked early at tackle. Started having more success when they moved him inside.

Jennings likely for the PS. The team probably already has an agreement with him on PS.

Richburg on NFI/PUP list ... will miss first 6 games. Argh.

Dee Ford contract restructured to free additional $9.5M this year. Do you think it's for Clowney or for Williams new contract?

Hasty cut. Very likely to end up on the PS.

Damn. just realized we also cut Salvon Ahmed a couple weeks back.

I was sure one of them would make it.

We have a backlog at RB. Coleman had a bunch of salary guaranteed after a certain date in the spring or summer, not sure when, so it basically became inevitable he would make it. I would have much preferred to have kept Mostert, McKinnon, Wilson, and Hasty, but the writing was basically on the wall. I don't think teams are going to move aggressively after released UDFAs with only reporters' training camp news to go on, so Hasty should be on the PS, and I'm willing to bet he makes the roster in the not-too-distant future.

Cyprien and Darrion Daniels out. Some speculation one of them might make it. Tim Harris also out.

Well other than maybe keeping Wilson over Hasty, I can't say I'm too surprised with the final cuts.

Assuming all turns out well with Fred Warner's situation as to why he's on the Covid list, I wonder who will be cut when he returns to the active roster? Something tells me that it might be Dwelley.

Also, What am I missing with Richie James? That guy sure doesn't seem to bring much to the table, and consistently leaves chunks of yardage on the field when fielding punts and kickoffs.

I Hope Jennings doesn't get sharked on waivers and he lands on the PS. Then hopefully be can show enough promise there to be promoted to James' roster spot. Aiyuk, Pettis, or even Taylor can suffice on return duty.

I guess I was looking at the complete cut down list. Man, they were thin at WR. Closest thing to a surprise is James over Jennings, and arguably Hasty, but if I was making a projection it probably would have been this one. If Reed hadn't come asking, I think Jennings makes it, but Reed is probably better in that but slot role.

Oh, though I guess Flannigan-Fowles making it is something of a surprise.

Hasty's blocking was apparently so bad he wasn't playable so the PS was the best he could get. When he shows he's functional in that part of the game I expect him to move up and replace whoever is hurt in the RB group on the roster.

Supposedly Wilson's blocking has improved a lot so he may be close to getting Coleman's snaps, and if Coleman doesn't have significantly more impact on games he is not going to stick around after this year and may not make it to the end of this year if Jet gets hurt and Hasty proves he can block.

He doesn't scare Shanahan and the rest of the returners do.

Return to San Francisco 49ers
