Rating good tackles is easy. How well does the tackle keep the midline of his body in front of the defenders midline. How consistent a tackle is with this is first and foremost in my book. I remember grading Anthony Davis whom many disliked for being sloppy with his footwork, but he was always midline to midline with his blocks. Bend, leverage, and strength can be taught/trained—as it was with AD's case.

I would not be so excited over this guy.

Then lay a rating on us for Mr. Williams from 'Bama.

Only 4 players who even remotely interest me in this draft (non-QB) in order:

1. Q. Nelson
2. C. Wilkinson DT Clemson
3. Bradley Chubb
4. Calvin Ridley

The rest of the draft is just so meh. And I didn't list the safeties because I think the Niners are set there.

There might be some finds at C or G later in the draft, but nothing to get excited about.

Ridley actually makes the most sense as far as need goes because there are so few options at WR in FA, but I don't believe in picking for need unless he's the last piece you need.

Are you talking AT ALL or just likely top guys? I haven't seen a great deal of your personal level of interest in the draft this year so I don't know how far down you go this time.

Completely random question out of left field. Have you seen much of Wake Forest DE Duke Ejiofor? He was one of the guys I spent a ton of time on this weekend. Becoming one of my favorite rushers this year the more I see. He's a triple plus in the make up department, too. Was kind of hoping he'd fly under the radar for selfish reasons but he'll be a Senior Bowl kid so.......

This RB class looks pretty loaded to me.

As good as Nelson is I just can't stomach taking a G that high in the draft. Even if we trade down. I just can't do it. I'd much rather sign Norwell in free agency.

I'm just talking the blue-chip prospects. I'm sure there will be some great players who out-play their draft status, and I'm sure there are some valuable pieces in rounds 2-7. However, I think this draft might be the weakest I've ever seen (non-QB).

I've seen a little Ejiofor. I honestly don't see how he could possibly fit in a 4-3 unless he played SAM. Niners don't need another tweener IMO. I have no problem drafting him to play OLB, though.

The cornerback group is very underrated as well. No where as deep as last year’s class, nor is there an elite player like Lattimore, but definitely this year’s group of guys will produce several day one starters.

Unfortunately I haven’t seen any of Landry yet. Dude was hurt. But I wonder what Landry and Watkins at those two spots would look like. No way I go RB in this draft in first round and seriously we should be able to easily upgrade WR in free agency.

Thing about whether they extend Hyde is how effective he is in the passing game.

That one long pass that went through his hands, I'm sure they'd want a RB who can make that kind of catch.

It was tough but Hyde got well beyond the LB and if they have a WR who could be a big weapon in the passing game, that would open up the offense.

Let me ask you both this: whom would you rather have? A rich man's Brandon Scherff or a poor man's Sammy Watkins? Because I think those are fair assessments of Nelson & Ridley.

Nelson is the next Bruce Matthews. Maybe not the next Larry Allen, but he's close.

Whom would you take over Nelson besides a QB?

This would be better answered after Bowl season but right now I have Chubb, Denzel Ward, Roquan Smith and Sutton in that order.

Braden Smith in the second would be lovely.

Love me some Braden Smith, but I think Lynch would be nuts to pass on Nelson for any of those guys. MAYBE Chubb because he plays a premium position, but only if he's the next Mario Williams. I've seen mediocre blockers handle Chubb, and I've never seen anyone hold up to Nelson.

Nelson + Braden Smith and maybe move Garnett to C? Or even move Smith to C? Either way, gotta get stronger in the trenches. That needs to be priority #1.

Well Ridley is not even my #1 ranked receiver. That honor goes to Christian Kirk.

Christian Kirk = Tyreek Hill
But a better version!

My honest opinion, if it were up to me, I’d go with Lamar Jackson with our top 5 five pick. Rosen is now out of our reach. After selecting Jackson, then I’d focus in trying to get Kirk in the second round.

Trade Jimmy for a late first early second round pick. It sounds backward but it would be worth it. My gut feeling tells me that Jackson is going to be a stud player in the NFL. You surround that guy with some real talent he’d be a nightmare to gameplan against.

Nelson is a beast. But he’s still a guard. The only guard I would draft in the top 5 is Larry Allen.

I know you clearly stated “...besides a QB”, but I’m still going to list them just to illustrate how far I would go to avoid Nelson in the top 5:

J. Rosen
L. Jackson
S. Darnold
B. Chubb
D. James
Roquan Smith

I may even take Josh Allen ahead of him. The other Josh Allen, not the QB but the LB for Kentucky.
