I'm a bit puzzled by this pick. McKivitz is a tackle where we now have Williams, McGlinchey, Coleman and Skule. With RG an open competition (although I assume Brunskill will win the job) and Richburg coming off a bad injury, I would have thought picking an interior lineman would be a higher priority than another OT.

Looks like he projects as a guard from what I have read

Mikivitz played alittle guard in college to, I'm guessing he'll be moved inside.

Bryce Hall is still on the board, at least I think he is.

We needed a G though. Maybe there are no CBs there that would compete for a spot on the team

Breida :o
Read on Twitter

I liked Breida but our backfield was over-crowded. When McKinnon reworked his contract, I figured that would be the end of the Breida era. Holding onto the ball is important.

Yeah his contract was up wasn't it?

Or did he take the tender?

He signed his tender on 4/22.

He’s heavy footed, he looks like a player that would struggle on the edge going against speed rushers. I agree with you that his best chance to carve out a nice career in the league would be as a guard.

But McKivitz isn't a true guard; he played much more RT than RG. Given that his scouting report is that he is a very average athlete with limited agility, it's hard to imagine him excelling at pulling for the sweeps we like to run. If we were going interior lineman, it would seem to make more sense to grab a true guard that can also play center given the uncertainty over Richburg's health. If Lynch/Shanny didn't want to go in that direction, I was hoping we could have grabbed Bryce Hall.

Brieda’s $3.3M off the books. Boy did we need that. Hoping Goodwin is next. We have so many players that need to be re-signed. Still hoping we pick up some vets in the cheap once they no longer count against the combo pick formula. I’d really like to see a TE added.

Was hoping we could have gotten Philly's 5th round pick.

Return to San Francisco 49ers
