I live in the NY/NJ area, so I tend to get a lot of Giants & Jets games, which means I get the chance to see both of these bad teams play on any given Sunday. Williams has been very solid for them. Do not let the numbers (lack of stats) mislead you to think that he has not been a disruptive player for them.

To answer your last question, if we had the audacity to give a 2nd round pick for Sanders and then not even entertain the idea of signing him to a long term deal after the season, then based on our pass actions, Quinnen is well worth it. Think about it... He'd be under contract for 2 more years at minimum at his current rookie contract; we'd evaluate him at that point and determine whether or not we should exercise his 5th year option, which would then make it a total of 3 years playing for us. That's enough time for us to further evaluate him and see if we have enough cap space to sign him to a long term lucrative contract.

We gave a 3rd and 4th for Sanders, not a second. We had already traded the second for Ford.

I've seen him play since his days with the NY Giants. I don't think that he's a starting caliber corner in the league, but I'd like to think that he's better than Donta Johnson and Brian Allen?

Eli Apple
DB, Unsigned Free Agent

Panthers released CB Eli Apple.

Apple could not practice Tuesday, and it was apparently the final straw. Per The Athletic's Joe Person, Apple left Tuesday's session early after "telling coaches he couldn't go on his injured hamstring today." This sounds like a grievance in the making. Apple was active in Week 7 for only his second appearance all year after missing time with hamstring and ankle issues. It caps a bizarre year for Apple, who had a one-year, $6 million agreement with the Raiders fall apart after nearly one month. He then didn't land in Carolina until 56 days later. Never terribly effective, 25-year-old Apple was decent for the Saints in 2019. Perhaps he just needs another change of scenery.

Ohh right. Thanks for refreshing my memory. That's still a whole lot of draft capital to give up for a player you didn't want to keep for the long term.

I'm just saying, if Bosa comes back to his rookie form, he's going to command/demand a huge contract with over $50-60 million guaranteed money.

That wouldn't leave room for another big contract in the DL and they were in the same draft class so they'd both be up for extension the same year.

Unless we get over the pandemic quick and NFL stadiums sell out again, starting next season, salary cap won't go up enough to allow the 49ers to keep both.

Absolutely. I hate that we're still so thin at WR after sending those picks and using a second (Pettis), second (Samuel), third (Hurd), and first (Aiyuk) on the position in the past three years.

Not really. If we hadn't drafted Kinlaw, I'm be more tempted. But we can't throw a first this year and a second last year at interior DL. We need more talent on the edges, especially if - as looks likely at this point - Dee Ford never returns to form.

Everson Griffen
DL, Detroit Lions

Lions acquired DE Everson Griffen from the Cowboys in exchange for a conditional 2021 sixth-round pick.

The move comes one day after NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Griffen was on the block. Because of COVID-19 protocols, Griffen cannot make his Lions debut until Week 9. Griffen was an August bargain for the Cowboys on the free agent market, but they are packing in their season following the loss of Dak Prescott. Ex-Viking Griffen has three sacks on 282 snaps this season. He will help goose the pass rush for a defense that has only eight quarterback takedowns across six games. For once, coach Matt Patricia is acquiring defensive talent instead of trading it away. 32-year-old Griffen will be a free agent again in the offseason.

Quinnen Williams
DL, New York Jets

ESPN's Rich Cimini reports the Jets are not shopping second-year first-rounder DT Quinnen Williams.

The New York Daily News created a Tuesday morning stir when it reported the Jets were shopping Williams "with the hope of moving him" before next week's deadline, but it was quickly refuted by Cimini and another Daily News reporter. Even for a rebuilding team, it would make almost literally zero sense. Williams' career is off to a strong start and he is not yet 23. It would have to be a Jamal Adams-style haul for the Jets to even consider it, but the Daily News' original report said that was not the case. If true, it is completely baffling.

For that price tag, I might have looked to jump in the mix. Not sure how much Griffen has left, but we need someone who can rush the passer from the edge, and he's been one of the better guys in the league at doing it. Granted he's fallen off quite a bit lately.

I was getting ready to say that. When he entered the draft many years ago out of USC, I was one of his biggest this was an even trade, and I'd even give a slight edge to the Cowboys winning this deal because they basically got a Griffen for nothing during the offseason and yet still manage to get a free draft pick out of him.

Bengals traded Carlos Dunlap to Seattle for basically nothing other than cap relief.

At least Dunlap won't be able to play this week against the 9ers

He's not a game changer, but he's a very good/consistent player that will definitely give Seattle's underwhelming pass rush a shot in the arm.

With how his Bengals' tenure ended, he will likely be very motivated as well.

That was Sickness's guy. He wanted Willams over Bosa and was convinced Williams was going to be dominant player

From the Cincy fans I've come across, I am told he was never a really good pass rusher but this last year has not played well at all. Looks washed up.

If he was some other team would have given up something better than a 7th rounder. Good pass rushers are hard to come by and teams will compensate for them. He is not a game changer

Idk, he has the 10th most career sacks among active players. He's not ancient either, he's 31. So he's been doing something right.

In terms of being "washed up," last season was his 2nd best for tackles and 3rd best for sacks. Cincinnati, is clearly going with a youth movement so Dunlap/Atkins/etc are being given a back seat. This is likely the primary reason his snaps have drastically declined this season.

Dunlap was carrying around a $10 million cap hit, that is not an easy thing for most teams to absorb midseason. So the trade options were limited. Plus I'm sure his attitude towards the end with the Bengals made some teams hesitant as well.

Look, I'm not trying to champion Seattle for making this move. I hope it doesn't work out swimmingly for them. But acquiring a player like Dunlap for basically nothing is not an inconsequential move for them.

The Dunlap trade has way more potential to move Seattle's needle than the Willis trade to move Frisco's needle does.

Given how weak Seattle is on the edges, it's not a nothing move. That said, he's not Jadeveon Clowney, either (granted Clowney was very inconsistent last year, and arguably had his best games against us). The benefit of the move mostly depends on Dunlap. He hasn't been very good this season - he's actually rated below Willis by PFF, though on far more snaps - but he wouldn't be the first guy to round back into form after leaving a doormat for a contender.

Willis for us probably doesn't move the needle much at all. Willis probably isn't any better than the guys we have. That said, just having another rotational player should help us given just how thin we are at DE.
