This is just kind of odd:

And so, barring a trade or a late veteran signing, the 49ers will go into the 2019 season with a secondary that, outside of Sherman, will consist largely of the same unproven products that struggled last season.

If only there was some other way to add players during the month of April. I'm thinking and thinking, but I just can't come up with anything....

If we don't add at least one DB with our first three picks, I'm going to be pretty pissed. At this point, DB is almost certainly our biggest need. I figured for sure we'd address the safety spot given a strong FA class. There are several guys in the draft who might fit and should go in the second or third, but just bringing Ward back and adding Verrett is not a plan IMO. If it were up to me, I'd add a S and a CB in our first three picks.

I actually liked this guy in College. I guess he was just dumb as rocks and never learned to be a pro. Maybe he’s finally turned the corner now that he’s experienced being out of the league.

Worth a shot. No risk, some potential reward. Could potentially play some SAM as well as providing some pass rush. We'll see. Less than even odds to make the roster, probably.

I could not agree more. I read this article this morning. There were options in free agency. What baffles me is they appeared willing to throw money at Leveon Bell. Why not sign one of the available free agent safeties. Unless the team drafts some secondary help, it is betting alot on players that have shown an inability to stay healthy. I thought Jimmy Ward should have been gone this offseason. He already had a one year prove it deal last year and got hurt again. Shanahan makes the same argument Ive heard other make in defending Ward, that they were freak injuries. The problem is Ward has a long history of this now since he was drafted. And even when he did play wasn't very good.

“I feel like if you look at our team, the only position you probably couldn’t argue to go get someone at is quarterback, just because of what we’ve done there and the three guys we have,” Shanahan said of Jimmy Garoppolo, C.J. Beathard and Nick Mullens.

The two guys I'd have a fun time working with this year from a coaching perspective would be Ryan Finley and Tyree Jackson. I'm not putting my name on them with ANY guarantees at all because I don't love most of the QB coaching structures currently going on in the league right now, and I'm not high on this class overall, BUT those would be the two guys I'd probably enjoy working around the most from this class and would pick in relation to value.

I'd rather force feed those two on Shanahan over Beathard and Mullens as well but with no guarantees or absolutes on ANYTHING that would happen thereafter. Could be good/better. Could be a disaster.

Yep. I used to NEVER agree on Todd with anything when he started. In fact, I reallllllly didn't think he should have his job way back in the day when he was just their Scouts. Inc. guy. But I'll give him this, I'm agreeing with him considerably more than I used to for some reason.

49ers LB Fred Warner explains why he switched to No. 54

Odd thought: I don't know if there was another player at his position that had a number in the 40s that I thought fit better with his body type than him. I liked it.

49ers Sign OL Daniel Brunskill

https://www.49ers.com/news/49ers-sign-ot-daniel-brunskill?sf210936755=1

Position projection and what his weight is now,, and the projection of what they think it can be, would go a long way into what I think of the signing but I don't absolutely hate it in and of itself.

I don't love it if it would come at any or the expense of another lonnnnng project type, especially some of the ones available later on in this draft, but I'm not going to walk around thinking this changes their thinking all that much in a couple of weeks.

Loved his physical make up. Smart guy with high character. Former wrestler and understands angles and leverage. Team beat writers loved him and was always a good quote. Very well liked on his teams. Power game, 1-technique player that plays within his physical gifts but struggles with techniques and as an overall athlete chasing and getting to the perimeter.
