Snyder and Spillman getting cut...If I was crazy enough to do backflips I would.

Oh and Spillman gets replaced by McCray. Cheaper and probably better STs with upside at S.

Hangman_52 wrote:They're keeping undrafted rookie G/C Dillon Farrell instead. According to CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, Snyder's release "does not mean the 49ers and (holdout OG) Alex Boone are talking." Per Maiocco, there is still "nothing going on there." If that's true, Snyder must have been genuinely awful this summer, as the 49ers aren't in position to be releasing guard depth. Now 32, Snyder appeared in all 16 games last season, starting four. He was generally ineffective across 374 snaps. Joe Looney is starting in Boone's absence.

The developments along the OL might be the biggest surprises. I figured at least one, and possibly two of Snyder, Seymour, and Bykowski would make the 53. Farrell may have the most upside, and the staff liked him. We'll see. Leaves us a bit thin.

Also kind of shocked that Spillman, Osgood, and Ventrone were all cut. I figured one or two was gone; didn't see us kicking all three. Though McCray and Borland's play on STs may have made them feel more comfortable. No way we cut Dahl at this point. Looks like Acker and McCray are both getting the nod, which I like to see.

Spillman tweet

Wanna thank everyone from the 49ers organization from the Top down. One place who does things first class. Also wanna thank the 49er fans and the Bay Area for all their support thru the years! Just another stop in the road on life's long journey!

@mattbarrows: QB Josh Johnson has indeed made the #49ers' initial 53-man roster, league source says.

These are the guys we really don't know about.........

The 49ers must make five more roster moves. Thus far, there have been no confirmed reports on the following "bubble" players: WR Lance Lewis, WR L'Damian Washington, DE Demarcus Dobbs, OLB Chase Thomas, CB Kenneth Acker, CB Perrish Cox, CB Chris Cook.

I don't think that's six similar WRs. Lloyd can stretch the field like no one else on the roster, Ellington is quick and good in tight quarters, Boldin is strong as f*** (I can't see Lloyd doing what Boldin does, or vice versa), Crabtree is the closest thing we have to a "complete" WR, and Patton is a more traditional guy. Probably the closest thing to Lloyd.

It's pretty clear both WRs are gone. Don't love that we're keeping three QBs; I'm not sure we have a chance this year if either one of the backups gets substantial PT. That said, Gabbert looked pretty awful for most of the preseason.

IMO you're giving Lloyd too much credit. Everyone is a possession WR.

And do we really need six wrs? Ellington would be a returner but no one else really plays STs

Lloyd never has been, and never will be a "possession WR."

And even the term "possession WR" is too general a term. Ellington and Boldin may both be possession WRs, but would anyone ever argue they are similar?

I am really disappointed to see Seymour, Osgood, and Winston get cut. I'm surprised to see Lloyd still on the roster, and am happy to see that McCray is on the roster.

What is the point of keeping 6 WR's when we never run close to a 5 WR set and none of them will play special teams. Maybe Ellington will return kicks and punts but that is it

I'm ok with this. Having LMJ and Ellington makes Cox's ST ability not needed and if we expect Ward to play nickel, then his marginal skills are going head to head with the upside of Acker and Johnson.

He was ok but he didn't really make plays, whereas the above mentioned CBs do.

I saw somewhere that Cook made the team too. I guess that means our CBs are

Cully
Brock
Morris
Cook
Acker

and depending on what you call him, Ward.
