I watched the whole game. Can't say I was paying attention to him. PFF ranked him in the top 5 for 49er defenders

Below are the five 49ers players on defense with PFF's top grades in the same game.

CB Ahkello Witherspoon (80.8)
DE Nick Bosa (80.5)
LB Dre Greenlaw (75.7)
LB Mark Nzeocha (73.5)
DE Dee Ford (70.8)

JALEN HURD
WR, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Jalen Hurd (back) remained sidelined at Wednesday's practice.

Coach Kyle Shanahan called Hurd "week to week" last week, and Hurd doesn't look like he's going to suit up for Week 2 against the Bengals. The Niners went with a three-wide set of Deebo Samuel, Marquise Goodwin, and Richie James in Week 1, with Dante Pettis mixing in for two snaps.

T.J. HOCKENSON
TE, DETROIT LIONS

T.J. Hockenson caught 6-of-9 targets for 131 yards and a touchdown in the Lions' Week 1 tie with the Cardinals.

At the risk of blaspheming, the No. 8 overall pick looked Gronkian, never more so than on his 23-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter. Matthew Stafford scrambled out of the pocket and found his massive new seam stretcher at the back of the end zone. Hockenson was narrowly out-snapped by Jesse James, but he out-targeted his veteran teammate 9-1. Weekly TE1 value could be in the offing. Hockenson gets the Chargers for Week 2.

KYLER MURRAY
QB, ARIZONA CARDINALS

Kyler Murray completed 29-of-54 passes for 308 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Cardinals' 27-27, Week 1 tie with the Lions.

He added just three rushes for 13 yards. Murray was, frankly, bad for the game's first three quarters, missing throws that are normally automatic for him while getting a number of balls batted at the line of scrimmage. His interception was a truly horrendous decision inside his own 20-yard line. Without setting his feet, he made a half-hearted throwaway attempt that resulted in an easy takeaway for Tracy Walker. When the Lions went up 24-6 early in the fourth quarter, the game appeared over. That's when coach Kliff Kingsbury's air raid finally clicked into gear and Murray began dropping one dime after another, usually to Larry Fitzgerald. Fitz went 8/113/1, though Murray's most impressive throw was probably his 27-yard touchdown toss to David Johnson in the end zone. There are going to be more rookie growing pains — especially next week in Baltimore — but Murray showed what all the fuss was about this afternoon.

DK METCALF
WR, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

DK Metcalf caught 4-of-6 targets for 89 yards in the Seahawks' Week 1 win over the Bengals.

Metcalf was as good as advertised in his NFL debut. He used his size and elite straight-line athleticism to haul in two deep balls where he had to go up and snag the ball in traffic. What wasn't expected was Metcalf finishing with four more targets than Tyler Lockett, who had a long grab himself. The Seahawks' run-first attitude will make Metcalf a boom-or-bust fantasy receiver, but it's easy to see the upside he possesses as a WR4. Next week's matchup with the Steelers on the road will be a tough one.

MECOLE HARDMAN
WR, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Mecole Hardman was held without a catch on one target in the Chiefs' Week 1 win over the Jaguars.

It was not a shining debut for the second-round rookie, though he did out-snap Demarcus Robinson 52-46. With Tyreek Hill (collarbone) expected to miss multiple weeks, that's notable ahead of a soft Week 2 matchup with the embarrassing Raiders. Hardman will be worth some tournament draft throws in DFS.

GARDNER MINSHEW
QB, JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Gardner Minshew completed 22-of-25 passes for 275 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Jaguars' 40-26, Week 1 loss to the Chiefs.

Forced on in relief of an injured Nick Foles (collarbone) late in the first quarter, Minshew played shockingly well, spreading the ball around to D.J. Chark, Chris Conley and Dede Westbrook. Minshew simply wasn't missing any throws. You could say he was taking advantage of a plus matchup, but there really is no such thing as a plus matchup for a sixth-round rookie forced into a game mid-contest. With Foles likely out 6-8 weeks, Minshew will get a chance to sink or swim, though the Jags will be forced to sign a veteran this week. Despite today's promising showing, Minshew will be a bottom-barrel QB2 on the road in Houston next Sunday.

MARQUISE BROWN
WR, BALTIMORE RAVENS

Marquise Brown caught 4-of-5 targets for 147 yards and two touchdowns in the Ravens' Week 1 win over Miami.

Brown missed practice time this week and was listed as questionable going in, but he looked fully healthy as Baltimore's No. 1 option. He broke a tackle on a slant and went 47 yards for his first touchdown, then burned Minkah Fitzpatrick for an 83-yard TD on his second score. Brown got all but 17 yards in the first quarter and was rested late in the second half. There has always been blowup potential with Brown, but it's worth pointing out this came against a gutted-out Dolphins defense. Brown will be in the WR2 mix for next week's matchup with the Patrick Peterson-less Cardinals.

Didn’t we pass up on A.J. in the second round for Deebo?

A.J. BROWN
WR, TENNESSEE TITANS

A.J. Brown corralled three balls for a game-high 100 yards on four targets Sunday in the Titans’ Week 1 win over Cleveland.

The second-round rookie made the most of his modest workload, leading Tennessee in yards despite playing fewer snaps (25) than teammates Corey Davis (49) and Tajae Sharpe (29). Brown broke free for a 47-yard catch in the first quarter, then added to his haul in the third when he escaped for a 51-yard catch-and-run, shedding multiple tackles before Morgan Burnett finally subdued him at Cleveland's 28-yard line. Strong as a thoroughbred and deceptively elusive for his size (6'1"/226), fantasy owners—and opposing defenses—should probably get familiar with Brown's skill set. Owned in just three percent of Yahoo leagues, it's a good bet Brown will appear in John Daigle's upcoming Waiver Wire column.

GREEDY WILLIAMS
DB, CLEVELAND BROWNS

Browns CB Greedy Williams (hamstring) is questionable for Week 5 against the 49ers.

Williams isn't expected to play after missing practice all week. The Browns will also be without Denzel Ward (hamstring). It's a great spot for Deebo Samuel at home on Monday night. T.J. Carrie and Terrance Mitchell will make another start.

DEVIN SINGLETARY
RB, BUFFALO BILLS

Devin Singletary (questionable, hamstring) is a game-time decision for Week 5 against the Titans.

The Bills want to see how Singletary looks at Saturday's walkthrough before making a decision on him. It sounds like his status won't be known until Sunday morning. Even if he plays, Singletary's snaps figure to be limited in what's shaping up as a three-back committee.

DEEBO SAMUEL
WR, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Deebo Samuel caught 1-of-3 targets for three yards in the 49ers' Week 5 win over the Browns.

Samuel will have his moments as an after-catch maven, but they'll be impossible to predict as part of this receiver committee. He at least has a plus on-paper draw against the vulnerable Rams in Week 6 but will be a low-floor WR4/5 in that matchup.

Mike Lombardi said before the TNF Giants at Patriots game that Daniel Jones is a good player but won't ever live up to the #6 pick.

I think he will. #1 the guy is a rookie. He needs time to adjust to playing at that level. Even the great Peyton Manning had his struggles as a rookie. #2 he has absolutely no help in regard to the running game - opposing defenses are not respecting their running game since Barkley has been out. #3 He has no dominant player at the WR position - someone that brings a remnant of fear to opposing DBs. A player that’s able to bail him out in tough situation. Golden Tate did that on that TD catch on Thursday night, but he’s not a true consistent threat. #4 their play calling is not helping enough to mask his own little deficiencies. A player like D Jones would be deadly in a Kyle Shanahan system. In sum, he has a lot going against him at this point. If he doesn’t live up to the 6 pick, it wouldn’t be all because of his fault.

DARNELL SAVAGE
DB, GREEN BAY PACKERS

Packers S Darnell Savage is out Week 6 against the Lions.

Savage is week to week with an ankle injury. The good news is there is no structural damage. Third-year pro Will Redmond will fill in for Savage, who may be looking at a multi-week absence.

JEFFERY SIMMONS
DL, TENNESSEE TITANS

Titans activated DT Jeffery Simmons (knee) from the reserve/NFI list.

Simmons was expected to miss his entire rookie year after a pre-Combine ACL surgery. He returned to practice this week and showed well enough to be activated off NFI. It's an impressive recovery from Simmons, but the Titans will likely ease him in with low snap counts. A projected top-15 pick before his injury, Simmons could make an impact down the stretch.

IRV SMITH
TE, MINNESOTA VIKINGS

Irv Smith caught 3-of-3 targets for 21 yards in the Vikings' Week 8 win over the Redskins.

Smith has now gone at least 2/20 in three straight games, which isn't much, but an improvement on his early-season numbers. The Vikings simply don't need a big Smith contribution in the passing game right now. The rookie continues to look good when targeted. He enters the season's halfway mark on pace for 30/348. Smith would become a must add were Kyle Rudolph to go down with injury.
