http://football.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/16926/20100504/49ers_extend_willis_through_2016/Patrick Willis just signed an extension to keep him in an SF jersey until 2016. Great move by Baalke.

Very smart move to extend him, they didn't say how much it was though. Hopefully, we didn't give so much that it's going to create major future cap issues.

I wudve signed him for more if he wanted. He's the leader of the team and possibly the most valuable defensive player in the league. Great move

Jay Glazer reported that Willis' deal was 5 year/50 million with 29 million guaranteed. That's a perfectly fine deal for the best LB in the NFL. Now, we need to re-up Vernon Davis.

A fan-effin-tastic transaction. Patrick Willis should never ever enter a contract year. Him hitting free agency would only bring bad things. Willis had 2 years left on his current deal, but its never too early to extend an all world talent.
Pat is the best LB on the planet, and one could legitimately argue he is the best defensive player in the league. Dude got half the money Haynesworth got. IMO Willis is a more complete player. Plus, Albert isn't even on the field for a lot of plays. Albert needs multiple breathers throughout a game, and doesn't even play on certain down and distances.
IMO this is great value for a great player.
I'm guessing this extension process got started awhile ago with Mac still piloting the office. But kudos to Baalke, for keeping it alive as a priority and getting the deal finalized.

Willis is now the highest paid inside linebacker in NFL history. Willis is definitely on his way to a HOF career so this extension was more than worth it.
