Just reading that Troy Smith will step in for Alex Smith @ QB. What are his chances of Troy bring something different to the QB position? Will it help benefit the 49ers?

Re: Troy Smith steps in
I was talking about this with one of my friends.
He said "He's too small, he can't see over the O-Line"
to which I said, "What O-Line?"
Maybe his mobility will make a difference? Idk but it's better than that scrub Carr.

^ Yeah the line is (or lack thereof) is a definite issue. A lot of good it was to use both 1sts on O-lineman.
At this point I would prefer they sign/activate Nate Davis off the practice squad and roll with him for the balance of the season. Troy Smith solves nothing in the short or long term. Nate has a little upside, and it is already a disgrace of a season. So what better time to see what he can do in real game speed.
By the way this goes to show just how bad the Carr signing was. They signed him to be the #2, and he got passed up by a career #3 they picked up off waivers.... Dude is absolutely dreadful.

Troy Smith had a nice game even though the really shortened the playbook with him in there. Hopefully, Vernon gets healthy for the Rams matchup this Sunday, so Troy Smith will have another option out there.
As long as Troy Smith doesn't commit turnovers and makes good decisions he should be the starting QB.

Re: Troy Smith steps in
I think Troy Smith could actually lead this team to the playoffs. He's one of those guys that is a better winner than he is a QB, but that's exactly what this team needs. Of course he can't play defense...
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Re: Troy Smith steps in
The play where he avoided the sack and drew the crucial DPI play that led to the winning FG is a play where Alex Smith gets sacked, fumbles, and it's returned for a TD. Huge play by a guy who knows how to play with a lot of pressure on him, both from defenses and stresses. He wasn't that great but he was great when he needed to be.
