Nate Davis

Post#1 » by Sandlot » Thu Feb 10, 2011 8:02 pm

I'm pretty sure Nate Davis is still on our practice squad. I know he had a hard time learning the offense but I think he played well in the preseason. I'd love to see him get a shot to play this year. Maybe we just get a veteran to play for a couple years while Harbaugh works with Davis and then throw him in. I don't think anyone is convinced that any of the QBs available this year are worthy of putting our stock in. Just a thought. Any opinions?

Nate Davis signed with the Seahawks last I heard. I always thought he deserved more of a shot, but if the motivation was not there for him to work harder then I agree it was time to move on.

IDK, I think there was probably a reason he was cut and then signed to the practice squad. I think there are a lot of preseason superstars that aren't good NFL players. Kind of like Anthony Randolph in summer league.

I completely agree and like the bball reference. It is easy to look great in the preseason as going against third string defenses. As regular fans, it is hard to see everything that happens. Yet Nate Davis probably went against the 49ers defense in practice and probably did not perform as well as he did in preseason.

That is true. However, practice doesn't always show how great a player can be. Coaches are often wrong about a players potential. Just look at Tom Brady. He was a 6th round pick and was riding the bench. He shined in game time. If it weren't for Bledsoe getting hurt we may never have known about Brady. I don't think we can ever know the true value of a player until they can get in the game and have a legit chance to make an impact.
