Lack of Movement thus far

So far the biggest name that the 49ers signed that was on another team last season is Akers........a Kicker

They've been rumored to be in the mix for some of the big names, but so far no results

Are they going to be making trades instead of signing free agents.......what's the plan?

This off season blows. We're gonna be the worst team in our division. The only truly good thing we've done is sign Harbaugh and we still don't even know how good he is.

My hope for their plan:
1)See what they have in training camp
2)See they have crap
3)Suck it up for this season
4)Draft Luck
5)Profit

I do not see this team as a playoff contender so I would revert to my policy for any sim league I am in: if you cant win, suck, suck hard. If you don't have what it takes to win, getting better draft picks is the way to go.

Yeah this has been a pretty terrible FA period...

Not great. Normally I'm a big fan of a patient build-through-the-draft approach, but that's so much harder to sustain in the NFL, and I don't believe we have the requisite patience (given team/sale/arena situation) to pull it off.

In which case it's just spinning your wheels.

I'm starting to feel like tanking for Luck is the plan.

That and I have the sneaking suspicion that the lack of a salary floor is driving us and other teams like TB to save some money.

Filed to ESPN: Free agent WR Braylon Edwards and the San Francisco 49ers reached agreement on a 1-year, $3.5 million deal.

I do not think Luck will be an option because I do not see us getting the first pick in the draft. Other teams are worse off than we are. The plan is to see the major needs and type of players we need after one year. I was mad at our offseason initially but am becoming more supportive.

Our D-line could be improved this year even though Franklin left. Mcdonald should help create a more effective pass rush. I do not see our run defense taking a big hit.

Our secondary should be improved with the additions of Williams, Whitner, and Rogers. Our secondary was awful so it is very unlikely that we are worse. If these additions don't work then next year should be a year focusing on the secondary. I wish we would have gotten one or two bigger names who are more talented but this was not a bad group of secondary signings.

Braylon Edwards is a great pick up. I would have preferred Malcom Floyd but we really needed another receiver. Edwards is on a one year contract which means he should be highly motivated to step it up.

Signing the Saints center Goodwin is excellent. That was a huge need when Baas left and we fixed it. Goodwin was a pro-bowler and should be an improvement over Baas.

Ultimately, we addressed our three biggest needs in center, receiver, and secondary. The additions were not the greatest players but they fill key roles for this year and should allow us to continue to build and let Harbaugh succeed.

I dont mind the Braylon Edwards deal at all. I just hope Alex Smith gets injured in the preseason. I much rather see the Rookie play over him

CK still needs time to learn. He comes from a system similar to Smith. Smith was great in college in the same system as CK. Maybe hes not as smart but I do think the lack of time to learn, multiple offensive coordinators and lack of talent around him and protecting him have hindered his growth. Let's let him go this year and hopefully bolster the O-line and give Harbaugh some genuine time to develop CK.
