Peyton Manning

Post#1 » by radtech » Sat Nov 5, 2011 12:54 am

As the Colts creep closer to winning the "Suck for Luck" sweepstakes, would trading for Manning put the Niners over the top?

Alex Smith, to his credit is playing just good enough not to lose. But to reach the super bowl and win it, the Niners need Manning. The Niners have the defense, the running game, and special team, are in sync. Eventually a team will stop their running game, the defense will falter with the offense not sustaining enough long drives, and as always injuries can happen. Getting Manning next year will just start a run of 2 or 3 straight super bowl wins.

Manning may never play again, so no.

I would not give anything of significant value considering his age and health. It also depends on how Smith finishes the season. If he keeps playing consistent, smart football then I think we should stick with him. He and Harbaugh have a great rapport and he's still young enough to get better.

Don't forget about CK and the possibility of drafting another QB this year if CK actually isn't improving. Harbaugh has proven success with making raising up QB's. I would give up very little for the POSSIBILITY of a good Manning.

Why would you trade for him? he's one good tackle away from being put on the shelf... if that hasn't already happened

Understand that I cannot get into specifics due to hipaa laws, but suffice it to say that even IF Manning plays again, the odds are that he could very easily be taking his life and or ability to ever walk again in his hands.

Just remember that there is a third Manning brother, do some research and find out his story and you might better understand.

It looks like he will be released. We would crazy not to make a run for him. Smith is a great number 2, but we need to upgrade at qb. Brees is the only other possible qb I would love to get, but I doubt the Saints will let him go.

it depends on alot of things, how much $ does he wants is first off.

all in all though i think harbaugh has shown he's invested in smith, they're even going golfing this week i believe

Manning is rich & he doesn't need the money. He wants to win a ring. Our defense might be the best in NFL & if we had a better offense including a qb & some receiver help this team will be hard to beat for years. Next year our schedule is really tough & we have to improve offensively a lot.

of course, i don't know if he does or doesnt, but he probably makes a ton from ads so i'd hope he would sign here cheap.

and if we had manning and some vet recievers with this team, assuming mannigns healthy i don't see how we arent the team to beat

Even if he's healthy (he was just cleared to play) he might not be the same QB he was. I just don't see it as very realistic for us. The odds are that we aren't going to pursue him in the way some other teams will. Also, our O line might not be strong enough for him to be interested. I actually think the Jets are the most likely but I don't know how he would feel about playing for Rex.

Whether you like it or not, I'm 99.9% sure Smith is Harbaugh's guy.

i think even if he's 3/4 the qb he was he's still a pretty big upgrade over alex, and i think our o line will be fine, they played decent this year and manning makes them stronger because he's probably the best in the game at reading a d and audibling out, and i think him and harbaugh could do well together

Not as early an onset nor as severe, but it's not something I would EVER want to take a chance with.

This is actually good for now. Smith's confidence has never been higher and with a full offseason I think he's only going to get better. Obviously he's not the greatest QB but if we can give him another weapon I think it will be a great year.

With recent news I figure this conversation might come up again. I'm still not sure I want the Niners to make a push for him for many reasons.

It could hurt Smith if we go for him and don't get him. Smith was good last year, partly because of his confidence.

He might not be healthy.

He might offer less time then Smith can.

That being said, I think the one reason that i would really push for him is because I don't want him going to a division rival. The Seahawks and Az are both supposedly interested. I am really worried about him potentially landing in AZ.

That's all I got for now. Thoughts?

I've been awaiting this day since October. The one factor I forgot was that Alex and Peyton have the same agent. There's no way Condon will let Manning consider SF as a possibility. I think the Niners realize this and didn't want to strain their relationship with Smith and Condon by expressing any interest in Manning. Oh well. Here's hoping he stays in the AFC.

As much as I'd love to upgrade the QB position, I think spending our FA dollars on WR's would have a bigger impact than going from Alex Smith to the current version of Peyton Manning
