Suppose some people will write it, Anquan Boldin has decided to call it a career after the Bills decided to trade away Sammy Watkins and Ronald Darby.

Either way.

Sad in many respects. One of the better and most professional guys to come into the league in a very long time. One of the most entertaining guys to watch, too, IMO. The best title a football person can receive IMO is a "true pro's pro" and to me Boldin is a perfect example of that.

In his HOF commencement speak I hope he includes the story of having to calm down Larry Fitzgerald who was crying when he saw him (Boldin) break is jaw

Goff's a smart guy. I think he's going to make the leap to legit' threat in the NFL by the end of the year. He's still not a finished product, but I expect him to be pretty good by the end of the season. The goldfish calling him a bust last year will conveniently forget their overreactions to a rookie QB struggling by next season.

Kony Ealy - DL - Free Agent

Patriots released DE Kony Ealy.

The writing was on the wall after Ealy's preseason struggles. The Patriots traded a second-rounder for Ealy and a third-rounder in March, but he proved to be miscast in the old Rob Ninkovich role. A highly inconsistent pass rusher, Ealy hasn't lived up to his draft status. He should draw waiver interest in 4-3 schemes as a veteran flyer.

Bears lost Cameron Meredith for the season with a torn ACL suffered in today's game.

They have a bunch of known names left - Kevin White, Kendall Wright, Markus Wheaton, Victor Cruz, Deonte Thompson, Josh Bellamy, Tanner Gentry, Titus Davis, Daniel Braverman - but collectively they should scare the living daylights out of you if you're a Bears fan, especially considering how many of those guys can never stay completely healthy.

Didn't love/like him as a draftable prospect, and I don't like/love him now, especially considering what he'll likely command when the time has come. My guess is something like 5 years, (around) mid-$60M-$70M.

For me I don't want his exact skill set if I'm dishing out money in that area so I'd be a firm no on him in almost every scenario you give me. I can always come back and eat crow if he doesn't get anything around that, but that's just an educated guess.

Free agent linebacker Ahmad Brooks visiting the Packers

I'd be kind of sad if he became a Packer. There aren't many teams I enjoy watching getting gashed against the run more than them, and I could see him doing some mildly nice things for them in that area depending on what they ask him to do. Would personally rather see him in DEN.

Said this on draft day but I'm more happy for Hue than anything. I almost always worry about QBs that I liked in the draft so it's no different here that I worry about the pace of this and his current surroundings, but it should be interesting week 1 for a whole host of reasons. Here we go.

Starting middle linebacker Anthony Hitchens suffered a tibial plateau fracture in his right knee and will need eight weeks to recover, according to a source. The team feared Saturday he suffered a torn ACL, which would have been season ending.

The odd part is that Kizer hasn't looked good. I would much rather see Kessler in there to see if he can be developed

I wouldn't waste one day on Kessler but that's just me. Again, not saying I don't worry about Kizer, and I would have made all efforts to have a stop gap available as an option when I knew I was taking Kizer, but for me I wouldn't care to spend any time on Kessler.

I think Kessler can be about as bad as Josh McNown

Ok. Interesting. McCown is one of my favorite people and short term stop gaps in the league and you won't find many people as high on him as me so that lets you know where I'd be at in a either/or situation between those two. Gives me an idea where you have his (Kessler's) ceiling, though.
