Marcus Simms files paperwork to enter supplemental draft

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/06/20/marcus-simms-files-paperwork-to-enter-supplemental-draft/

Has had 2 DUIs - marijuana found - and driving on a revoked license incident in his past. Ok size, good speed, with good YAC ability. Also has some start/stop/start ability.

You won't get a complaint out of me if someone tells me they're risking a pick on him. The decision making stuff probably in the end scares me off enough that I wouldn't end up getting him but at the same time I'm not going to tell anyone they're crazy for wanting to risk something on him.

If he had an ACL tear, Baalke would draft him somehow.

Beckham averages $18M on his new deal. AB averages $16.708M. Evans is at $16.5M (contract signed 15 months ago).

14 NFL QBs average $22M/year or more.

2 defenders in the league average $22M/year or more (Mack @ $23.5M and Donald @ 22.5M). Only 2 others (DeMarcus Lawrence and Frank Clark) are over $20M/year.

New-money analysis makes $22 million for Mike Thomas seem far less reasonable than it is

https://www.bengals.com/news/hobson-s-choice-bengals-ride-off-on-summer-breeze

I think the initial big-picture intent is to make fourth-rounder Ryan Finley the backup while putting Jake Dolegala on the practice squad. But does that happen this year or next? It depends how Finley responds in his rookie preseason. If he’s ready (and he is mentally but he’ll have to prove it physically), then they can cut Driskel. But if Finley needs a year to develop, I would imagine they’d have to keep three QBs because they won’t be able to stash Finley on the practice squad without somebody plucking him. Dolegala is a developmental practice squad guy all the way and an intriguing one after he practiced so well Thursday.

I'd take him back (Chip Kelly QB) as a short-term project type over Beathard. It's possible a better name/type becomes available down the road that I would rather have down the road. I was never in love with Driskel's ceiling/home run potential but I like where I believe his floor is and some of the things he does naturally.

Two current Niners and two former Niners (Ginn didn't show) in the field.

What do you mean he didn’t show? Wasn’t he the one that started or spearheaded this event for active players?

Report: Washington State’s Jalen Thompson enters supplemental draft

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/06/29/report-washington-states-jalen-thompson-enters-supplemental-draft/

He purchased a banned supplement - not a steroid - and lost his eligibility.

Last year, only allowed a 62.3 passer rating in his coverage area (5th best mark among Pac-12 safeties) and only a 51.5 passer rating when targeted in the slot (best mark among Pac-12 safeties).

How's this guy even going to make the squad? you don't just roll out of bed and beat out a guy like Antone Exum for a roster spot. <Sarcasm>

Posted this in the offseason thread before realizing it was in here. Same margin Goodwin's combine 40 beat Jackson's combine 40 by.

If nothing else, it's nice to see that Goodwin still has elite speed. Let's hope he gets more of a chance to use it this season.

Pro Day Workout: Marcus Simms

http://draftanalyst.com/pro-day-workout-marcus-simms

1/4 inch shorter and 6 lbs. lighter than his last listed height/weight.

His broad would've been 18th best among NFL Combine WRs this year (They gave him a half of an inch which technically is not done at the NFL Combine for broad jump).

“40 yards of gold” draws estimated crowd of 2,000 to 3,000

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/07/01/40-yards-of-gold-draws-estimated-crowd-of-2000-to-3000/

A source with knowledge of the situation told PFT that at least four decided not to run because the presence of eventual winner Marquise Goodwin (pictured) resulted in a “risk vs. reward [that] didn’t add up.” Titans safety Kevin Byard, Giants receiver Corey Coleman, and Cardinals safety Budda Baker originally were in, and then they were out after Goodwin got in. Colts safety Malik Hooker also passed on a chance to participate, due to Goodwin’s addition to the field.

Guessing they will eventually or would push back on the idea that this is why they did not participate.
