Wright's been a bit of a headache for T-Bay. He's really talented and signed a pretty sizable deal a while back, but he's had on and off issues ever since. He just had his contract reworked from 7.75mil this year to 1.5mil and was 'on his last strike' with the team. then he got nailed on a DUI charge and they decided enough was enough.
Now, mind you, T-Bay's being REALLY hard right now on the character thing-- trying to mold a club with players that conform to a certain image/buy-in to a certain philosophy... so it's possible he does better on an already established team that has stronger leaders and maybe a bit more leeway to deal with his stuff.
If he matures, he's very talented and could really be a great pickup for SF, if he doesn't, he'll be bounced from his second team in less than a year and the Niners will have to rely on their other S/FS/CB additions.
EDIT: I wanted to check for sources, but my memory was right-- Wright had college trouble too, transferring out of USC after two seasons because of an off-field issue that got him suspended (but no charges). He sat out a year and joined UNLV for a season before declaring. Again-- he's shown some real bright spots in his career, but he's had issues. Low risk, high reward for SF, I think.
