2 QB: Kaepernick Gabbert Bethel-Thompson
5 RB: Gore Hunter Lattimore Miller James Tukuafu Hampton Debniak
3 TE: Davis McDonald Celek Carrier
5 WR: Crabtree Boldin Patton Baldwin Jacobs Carswell Reed Sampson Wylie
7 OL: Staley Davis Iupati Boone Kilgore Looney Snyder Martin Bykowski Marquardt Netter Seymour
22 Total Offensive spots 15 Locks 3 Likely 18 Longshots
1 K: Dawson
1 P: Lee Schmidt
1 LS: McDermott
3 Special Teams spots 3 Locks 1 Longshot
7 DL: Smith McDonald Dorsey WIlliams Carradine Jerod-Eddie Dial Dobbs Purcell Okoye Tupou
8 LB: Willis Bowman Smith Brooks Lemonier Skuta Wilhoite Moody Fleming
5 CB: Brock Culliver Wright Morris Cook Swanson
4 S: Reid Bethea Dahl Spillman Ventrone Campbell
24 Total Defensive spots 14 Locks 8 Likely 9 Longshots
That leaves 4 wild card spots up for grabs. Maybe a 3rd QB or 8th OL, but probably special teamers. Guys like Carrier, Dobbs, Moody, Morris, Spillman and Ventrone would probably fill one of these spots instead of a position spot if they make the team.
All together, that's 32 Locks 11 Likely and 28 Longshots for 53 roster spots. So basically 10 spots without a clear favorite, although I'm guessing the backup OL are already on the roster, I just have no idea which 2 or 3 will win the competition. WR is the opposite as I don't think any of the longshots have a better than 25% chance or so. I have Wright as a likely, but that spot could just as easily go to another veteran FA. Down to 8 open spots.
Free Agents:
CB Cox
WR Osgood
C Goodwin
QB McCoy
Thinking Osgood is the only one with a good chance to come back still. So that leaves 7 open spots for draft picks, except Bowman will most likely start the year on IR, so that's 8 spots to start the season.

Re: 2014 Roster
Keep in mind that on top of this, we also have 10 picks + comp picks (maybe 2 or 3), and it goes without saying that there's no way in hell we can find spots for 10+ rookies on our 53 man roster in addition to all the guys you have listed above. Can we put Bowman on the Designated to Return IR even though his injury was last year?
Camp is going to be a BATTLE. Iron sharpens iron.

I believe he'd have to be on the active roster before doing so, but basically yes. I can't think of any advantage to doing that instead of the PUP list like Crabtree, Manningham, etc. were last year. PUP is unlimited while you only get one return from IR.

Yeah, that makes more sense. PUP is six weeks until you either have to activate them or put them on IR, correct?
On another note, what do people make of the DeSean Jackson rumor? To me, it sounds like Baalke just kicking the tires, we don't have anywhere near enough cap space to take him on.

Re: 2014 Roster
Yeah, there's a window between weeks 6-10 for PUP guys to practice and activate before they have to go to IR.
Always liked DeSean, but no way at that contract. Would rather target Beckham in the draft.

Yeah. He'd be a great option to stretch the field but no way we're bringing him on at $10M per year.

So Culliver just went on the bubble and almost guarantees we draft a CB in the first.

Re: 2014 Roster
Yeah, if CB wasn't our #1 need before the Culliver incident, it definitely is now.
Would not be surprised to see us pick a corner in the first and another in the 2nd/3rd.
