2014 Preseason Game 1: 49ers @ Ravens, 8/7

Post#1 » by GS Warriors 1 » Thu Aug 7, 2014 2:38 am

Thought I'd make a thread for tomorrow's game.

Game will be broadcast locally on KPIX and nationally on NFL Network at 4:30p PST/7:30p EST.

It's finally gonna get underway!

I'm ready.

Curious to see:

What Carradine does
How many oppportunities the young WR's get (Ellington, Patton)
How does Bruce Miller look off injury
How does Iupati look off injury
Who is going to start to emerge from the CB group
Josh Johnson vs. Blaine Gabbert
Who of Borland/Wilhoite takes the lead to be Bowman's placeholder
How much does Skov play

Basically all of those as well.

You can also throw in Joe Looney at RG in place of Alex Boone, who is still holding out. Reports have been positive on Looney so far, just need to see him in game action against opposing starters.

No Anthony Davis, either. He is still rehabbing from offseason shoulder surgery, Jonathan Martin will get the nod at RT.

Meh...first half was basically set to get Stevie Johnson involved in the offense

Rooks: Hyde definitely looks like an immediate contributor. Runs with great power, showed some nice burst. Ellington looks very intriguing as a return man, interested to see more of him in the coming weeks. Ward was up and down, got lost in coverage on one play but looked good defending the run on a couple plays. Johnson's real big for a corner and I thought played good coverage when he was in.

Carradine and Dial were better than the starters for this one(Dobbs and Jerod-Eddie). Nose could be an issue with Dorsey out and Williams still trying to get back, hope he can get something in the preseason.

Gabbert was pretty bad but we still got 3 more games to go. Still, not a good start. Josh Johnson is more comfortable with the system and it showed.

Jonathan Martin and Joe Looney had a bit of a struggle, it seemed.

Chris Cook was a standout in training camp and looked good last night. He'll be a difference maker for us moving forward, I just hope he can stay out of trouble.

Jeez, its quite alarming just how terrible Gabbert is. I don't give a good god da*n if it just was the first preseason game. His past performance speaks enough to overcome that. The dude just simlply isnt an NFL caliber player. He is just horrendous. Due to Baalke's ridiculous trade they have to pay him anyways, so just get rid of him. There is zero and I mean no upside to having him around. Just eat the money, cough up the draft pick later and move forward with someone who can actually help you.

Gabbert's ineptness was so blindingly bad, its pretty much all I can remember from the game, that was a few days ago.
