A Tale of Two Halves: What Is Going On With the Niners?

"Given how successful the 49ers have been over the past few seasons and how well they’re coached, it would be a surprise if things didn’t get better. Boone should play better as he gets back into game shape. Both Anthony Davis and Vernon Davis are on their way back, with the latter likely to suit up in Week 4. Ward will make fewer mistakes (or play fewer snaps). Let’s remember that San Francisco was also 1-2 last year, having suffered blowout losses by 20-plus points in back-to-back games at Seattle and at home against Indianapolis. The 49ers promptly righted the ship, won their next five games, and finished 12-4. Repeating that many wins might be tough, given that there are still two games against Seattle to go and matchups against Denver, Philadelphia, and New Orleans. But it’s too early to panic. The 49ers should be fine. "

I am not convinced that we can right this ship just cos we have done well in past seasons and have a supposedly quality coaching staff. It is going to take a hell of a lot of work on both the coaching front as well as players to right this ship.

Thinking back to the preseason folks said that it was just preseason hence play calling was vanilla, losses didn't mean much since we weren't showing our hand. Well, it's three games in now and the defensive game plan has not shown me any improvement over preseason. Offense has been a tad better but still has plenty of glaring shortcomings - lack of a run game, miserable protection etc. Penalties (whether legit or not) have gone up too and at crucial times.

Can we bounce back? Sure. But we are going to need a 180 on all levels to convince me of the same.

Yeah, but last year we hit a really easy stretch of schedule after the first three games (three games against the AFC South).

The issues are fixable but the question is if they can be fixed before the hole dug is too deep to climb out of.

Offensively I feel if we can get the interior of the line shored up and playing better that will cure a lot of our offensive woes.

Defensively we just have to get Tank and Dial in there and it must frustrate Baalke to no end seeing those guys on the bench. Both of them have shown they would be better pass rush options than what we're throwing out there now and seeing as how Lynch is getting a lot of snaps I don't see how that mentally not prepared excuse works.

Penalties is another thing that if we could get under control would help. The frustrating part on this one though is in all 3 games we've been victimized by terrible (and costly) calls but there are plenty of calls that are legit that could be cleaned up.
