Reading Matt Maiocco's weekly chat transcript yesterday, he believes that Iupati is not all the way back from his injury he suffered in the NFC Title game. He was never great in pass protection anyway, but this year he is really struggling. He wasn't that great last year either, he was good (still made All Pro Team)....But I am thinking this is definitely his final season with the Niners. They need extend Crabtree, and in my opinion Alex Boone before they even think about Iupati. Boone has the versatility to play Tackle, he did so in college and he also looked impressive last season filling in for Staley against the Rams. He didn't allow a single sack against Robert Quinn - one of the best pass rushers in the game. The Niners may have drafted Iupati's replacement in Brandon Thomas, and we also have Looney who looked decent. I think with more reps, Looney has potential to become very good.

Mike Iupati was gone either way. Just no room for him, even if we wanted to keep him. We just gave Staley 52mil, Anthony Davis got 40mil, and Boone is a FA in '16 and will be looking for a big contract himself. It was always Crabs vs. Iupati, and I think the 49ers chose Crabs.
Look for Brandon Thomas to fill in for Iupati next year if he's healthy.

Right on. Boone will be cheaper than Iupati anyway, keeper for sure.

Marcus Martin and Brandon Thomas picks basically numbered the days for Iupati on the team.
Ideally I believe Baalke wants Martin to take over Center and Thomas to take over LG but I think he grabbed both thinking that one or the other will be able to fill Iupati's absence.
The 9ers are going to pick Crabs over Iupati and right now Iupati is making that decision easier and easier for them. Though I will say he likely isn't 100% from his injury yet but he still looks like a turnstile in pass pro and that's really just poor technique on his part as he's just not shuffling his feet to keep in front of guys.

I guess Martin can take his time. Kilgore seems to be playing well at C and is signed through 2018.

Iupati is as good as gone, like I said in the offseason. He seems like a prime candidate to end up with San Diego IMO.

He will go to a team who has no o-line. Green Bay or Patriots

Next year the 9ers O-line will look like
Staley
Thomas
Martin
Boone
Davis
Martin might replace Thomas and Kilgore at C.
Looney Martin and Kilgore as backups looks good.
