Niners are in a Great Position now

Post#1 » by NinerSickness » Tue Oct 28, 2014 10:22 pm

The Cardinals are the only team who are 2 games up on the 49ers. The good news about that: they're the Cardinals. Also, they still play SF again and they play Seattle twice (along with playing @ Dallas next week against a good pissed-off Cowboys’ team). They still play Detroit too. I’m not too worried about the Cardinals.
There are a lot of games where a team who could stand in the way of the Niners has to lose. Cardinals play Seattle twice, the Lions and the Cowboys. Philly plays Seattle, Dallas twice, and Green Bay. Detroit plays Green Bay again (@ GB).

Also, the Niners played in Denver on a short week on a 2-game road trip; they were set up to lose. They were also playing without the best player on the team (Aldon). Most defenses don’t even have 3 all-pros on it at all; the Niners were MISSING 3 all-pro’s (Bow, The VP and Aldon). Plus, the O-line has been banged up all season, and once it gets up to full strength it’s gonna dominate: especially w/ M.Martin at center. Dude’s gonna be one of the great centers in the league for a long time IMO.

The Niners have PLENTY of time to make up 1 game on the rest of the NFC and 2 games on the Cardinals.

I'm pretty optimistic about the rest of the season as well.

The reports on Bowman have been good and our secondary has played pretty well with an anemic pass rush so if Aldon brings his elite pass rushing skills our defense will be pretty fierce and that's not to mention Lynch should improve as the year goes on and will get better pass rushing looks with the Smiths getting attention on the other side.

Overall my biggest concern is the offensive line but even that unit should be on the upswing. They just absolutely have to get better at pass blocking. Aside from average one stupid pass a game Kaepernick has put together a pretty good year so far and I think he could put together a great year if he gets better protection up front.

It's a big if right now but I see another potential contributor in Lattimore. If (stress if there) he is 100% he could possibly be the best back on the roster. He was clearly a more talented RB than Hyde and if healthy he would likely be a better RB than Gore right now.

I thought we needed to start 5-3 then start getting people back so hopefully we beat the rams and get Aldon back for saints and Dorsey real soon. Shame we let the bears come back and win that game. The next 4 are very winnable with saints in NO being the toughest.

I can live with the AZ loss(not how it unfolded but splitting with them) but that Bears loss is unforgivable.... especially going up 17-0 in our home opener...

such a joke, and look at them now...

I feel the same way. I figured before the season the game in AZ could be a loss but the Chicago game is one that hurts. Should have won that one.

I think the Niners are in the driver's seat at least in terms of a wildcard spot.

Philly & Dallas play each other twice. If one of them sweeps, that's the best scenario. If they split, the Niners would have the tie breaker with both of them (I think; unless it's different for wildcard rankings).

However, I don't think the division is out of reach. The Cardinals are very beatable w/ the reinforcements the Niners have gotten, and Seattle could easily sweep the Cardinals; I'm not saying it's likely, but Seattle's still probably the better of the two teams IMO.

I'd take the the Cardinals' 9-1 over the Niners' 6-4 of course, but I'd take the Niners' roster over any other team in this division w/ Aldon back & Tank coming along & Dorsey (and Bowman too?) making a come back.

The Cards would have to go 3-3 from here on out, and the Niners win out, to even have a shot at the division. I can't see it. Not with the way Seattle has looked. AZ matches up very well with Seattle on D. I could see a 1-1 split, but it's tough to see the current Seattle team sweeping the Cards.

Playoffs today and both us and Seattle would miss out. Crazy if you think about it.

I don't see us taking the division at this point, and fighting for a WC is gonna go down to the wire. Meanwhile a team from that idiotic NFCS division will make the playoffs by virtue of just being in that division. The system is a complete bust as I've been saying for years.

Damn nfc north n east having easy schedules..... but again, we shot ourselves in the foot with the bears n Rams games....

I'm not sure which route I want the Az/Sea matchup to go, sweep or split. Nice to see Az taken down a peg but better to see the seahawks lose. So i'm going for a split here I guess.

I'm not hyping for a division title, that's AZ and deservedly so.

But the eagles/cowboys/packers/lions.... those teams are on our watch list. Go to my thread and see their schedule.

The Lions shat the bed so our shot at the division went down the toilet. Unless the Cards go 1-5.

I don't think its out of the question we don't win the division. AZ has a very tough 4 game stretch to end the season. If Seattle can beat them Sunday I see they go 1-3 to end the season. We have a easier schedule with tough road games at San Diego and Seattle but if we split between those games the AZ game could be for the division.

49ers play SD at home. The remaining road games are @OAK and @SEA. SD is still a tough matchup though.

we still have a tough schedule ourselves IMO. With our offense playing a qtr short of a dollar, its really hard to forecast the outcomes. Our defense is playing great but they can't keep doing this for 6 str8 games, offense needs to play like an NFL offense.

I count 4 tough games there.... with a unreliable offense, that's 4 very tough games....

I agree. 4 tough games. I just could not believe that with 5 Eli Manning picks, the Giants only lost by 6. And heck, they were even in position to take lead late in the game. The offense yesterday was a complete crapshow, namely Kap. Of course, Crabtree dropped another pass, VD continues to be absent (injuries lingering probably), and Kap missing open receivers. It's time to start involving Vance McDonald more, Kap tried going to him on a deep ball yesterday but overthrew him. He has plenty of potential and was drafted for his receiving skills. Now granted he needed to get his blocking down first, and playing behind VD was going to limit his opportunities, but it's time. Also, I thought Dawson could've hit McDonald on that botched snap, I thought he was open for a first down.

It was Lee and I think that would be asking alot of our Punter to complete a pass under pressure.

I think this offense is going to have to get their act together for us to make the playoffs. The defense will just get better now but the offense will make us lose to Arizona, Seattle, and San Diego the way they're playing.

My bad Lee. I guess he could've still tried. Oh well. Win is a win I guess.

Looking at the Cards' schedule, I suppose 3-3 or even 2-4 isn't out of the question. Their QB is not very good, they play four of six on the road, and I think they could struggle on offense against us, the Hawks, the Chiefs, and the Rams (five of their next six). On the other hand, their D is probably good enough to shut down all of those opposing offenses, but their run of schedule to close out the season is pretty brutal. We'd almost certainly have to run the table to even have a shot, though.

Really hoping the Rams are for real, here. We could really use their help.
