The Offense Will Get Better From Here - OL

Why? The offensive line. It had one terrible game, but Martin showed he's able to play with the big boys today. As he improves, so will the rest of the offense, and the O-line will be better than it's even been IMO.

Even Boone had a good game today. Staley was much improved. Part of that is that the Saints' DL isn't amazing, but they also weren't making a ton of mental errors (aside from Davis' screw up). And this was on the road. I think now is when they're gonna hit their stride, start to lose a little weight and get better in pass protection. Missing training camp clearly had a huge effect on Boone, but maybe he's finally turning a corner (part of that is the marked improvement in Martin next to him).

This is a special unit. All 5 of these guys are capable of dominating. Add Vance McDonald's blocking to the mix and the running game should be very good in the near future.

They were better today, but how much of that was in large part due to a run heavy scheme?

Some, but the OL pass-blocked a ton better today too.

We still have one of, if not THE most talented OL in the league. They just haven't been playing well. Anthony Davis has struggled (maybe it's the injuries), Alex Boone as well (maybe it's the hold-out) but both should come back to form sooner rather than later.

Next year it'll be Staley/Thomas/Martin/Boone/Davis and I'm happy with that.

The unit will/must start clicking once again....

plus an improvement, IMO, at C already showed a change in the run game. Yes the run plays were more called for than before but Martin is a good reason for the success of the runs up the middle....

still, plenty of strong DL to be played against in this 7 game run....

I've been beating the drum for a while but we'll go as far as the offensive line takes us.

If we get strong performances like we did from them in the MNF Ram's game and yesterday's game I think we could run the table.

Kap has played strong when the protection has been strong and if the running game does well I think our offense is hard to stop.

I wanna see them string together a few solid games in a row before I claim them back.

Yesterday was a start.

Honestly, with the exception of the second half against Denver, and pretty much the entire Rams game, Kap has looked better this year. Throwing with somewhat more accuracy, going through progressions, etc. He's still absolutely infuriating at times - particularly when he takes the sacks and loses fumbles. But he's been good enough for us to be better than we have been. The WRs and OL have really been letting him down, though. As good as the D promises to be in a couple months, we need the offense to step up. The way we're playing now, it's tough to imagine going into Seattle and winning, and that might be what it takes to make the playoffs, much less advance in them.

They have also been running much more to the left side which is the 49ers best side to run to with Iupati crushing dudes, Staley sealing the edge, and Vance chipping or pushing the defender down the field when needed. Miller needs to get be in for more snaps- typically good things happen when he's in the game. One would think a power run game would be the way to beat the Giants this week and hopefully the 49ers oline dominates.

Hopefully as Anthony Davis gets healthier, we'll be a bit more balanced in terms of which direction we run. Davis is a very good run blocker, and Iupati is very good at pulling, so we should be able to get going on the right side as well.

The offense has a ton of untapped potential. If they can get their collective heads out of their a$$es, they could take off in the second half of the season. Not holding my breath, though....

The offense line has been a turnstyle this year due to injuries and holdout. The starting five have barely played together all season. Martin struggled at Center hiis first game but that is to be expected being thrown in like that. He can be a dominant center in the league with more experience. If everyone can get healthy, this oline can be real good.

They looked a lot better this past week, so let's hope they're turning a corner. The talent is there, just have to start clicking.
