2 years ago he was a top 3 CB until the super bowl. Last year he was out all season and all people could remember was a bad game in the super bowl. Once again this season he is playing like a top CB in the league.
Against NY he was targeted 11 times. On those passes he allowed 3 catches for a total of 35 yards. He also had a pick and 3 PD. He sticks to his man like glue and causes the QB to try and make a difficult throw that is usually too far away to catch. All of the catches he did allow were when they had him play off the WR in a zone.
If only he learned how to track the ball a bit better in the air he would be the best CB in the league. I am surprised no one has taken him out to shag some fly balls in an outfield. If I was a coach I would have him do that for a while each day and his ball skills will improve dramatically. Put him in RF, then LF, and in CF. The ball moves differently in each field (if the batter is facing the pitchers mound) and it will really get his ball tracking skills honed in.

Re: Chris Culliver playing great again
Yes he is.
This is why I kept on saying the Niners to give him a long-term deal ASAP. They were in contract talks before the brass-knuckles incident, and then the talks stopped (apparently). That incident may have been the best the best thing to have happened to his bank account in his career.
We all know that Aldon coming back is going to make him look better, but the fact remains that Culliver has been playing at a high level. Now he's worth like 7 million a year (at least).
Well, let's hope that's where Brooks' cap space is going in the offseason. My hopes the Niners will be able to give Ray Macdonald a contract extension as well are dwindling; it's looking like 2015 is Ray's last year in SF. And that's a huge loss regardless of how well Tank develops.

He did play great and I need to eat some crow, because I unfairly said I was unimpressed with him the first few games of the season. I've paid more attention- and he's played pretty well to excellent the rest of the way.

Cully is playing with confidence. He is kind of demonstrative after a pass breakup or tackle. I like that.

Re: Chris Culliver playing great again
He playing much better as of late, no question. I even said that in the GDT... he has been good.
However it doesn't take away that he was poor earlier in the season IMO.
whatever, keep it up though... don't let us down. I wouldn't be crying if we lost him either way.

I am not sure who I would give extension to, Cox or Cully? Cox has been our best CB this year and has the ability to play the difficult slot position. Cully cannot play slot, but overall has had a good season too and he's a Baalke favorite. Help!

Cully Archipelago has always been a starting caliber CB. He's never gonna be a shutdown guy but definitely starting caliber.

Culliver looked good against Desean Jackson on the clips that were shown of their matchup today.
