Poteintial Kaepernick Replacement

Post#1 » by oaktownwarriors87 » Tue Dec 2, 2014 9:48 pm

I thought this would be the year Kaepernick would turn it around. I am willing to give him another chance next year, but I want to be sure we have a backup that could potentially be an upgrade. Who should that be?

Austin Davis is the first that comes to my mind. In the little that I have seen him play I feel like he could really have some potential to be a solid option at QB. He's a free agent next season. Not a sexy pick, but a good backup.

Jake Locker is another promising young player. The results haven't been there, but on the right team he could be a good QB. I really like him as a backup and potential starter.

As always, the draft is loaded with potential replacements.

What do you guys think? Who will be the future backup/starter for the 49ers next season?

Trade Patrick Willis, Navorro Bowman, Eric Reid, Aldon Smith, Justin Smith, Ray Mac, Culliver, Ward, Borland, Dontae Johnson, Lynch, Reaser, Acker, & Ramsey for the one and only Alex Smith. Let's put this to the test! Super Bowl guaranteed (?)

Are you nuts! No way.....hahaha just kidding.....In all honesty, I think Kap stays AT least one or two more seasons. Let's see how we does with a different OC who will hopefully employ him the correct way.

There is no way kap is gone after this season. You can wish it all you want it won't happen.

I'm not saying I want him to be. In fact, I said the exact opposite... "give him another chance next year."

He's at an age where QB's go one direction or the other. Especially with a new coach/system. In case he doesn't take a step in the right direction I would like to have a good backup.

Kaep isn't going anywhere, why is this even being discussed? Management will make drastic coaching changes before letting him loose.

This is the dilemma; no matter who is the coach next year they won't jettison Kaepernick yet, and I'm now convinced that unless they do what Sid Gilman did to Steve Young (tie his legs together) Kaepernick will never be the consistent pocket passer we need to get the team back to the super bowl.

Any rookie would sit behind him. All the good vet QB's are locked up. It's the same situation each and every year. He either miraculously puts it together next year or bridges the gap. Or the master contingency plan. We sit tight until Gabbert puts it together saving us draft picks, and money. Unfortunately, 100 years is too long to wait.

I agree that kaps not going anywhere.

But who picked kap in the draft? Baalke or harbaugh? I realize baalke resigned him but it's an easy out the way his contract is set up.

If kap was a harbaugh guy and harbaugh is gone after this year then kap will have a shorter leash.

If he was a baalke guy then he will have some time to get better.

I really hope kap improves and is our guy for the future. Starting over is a bitch.

Coaching changes likely mean QB changes, as well, unless the QB is a solidified starter. Kaepernick's contract, despite the #s, is actually pretty maneuverable.

I just don't see that happening. The Niners signed him to a lucrative contract for a reason...they aren't going to just trade him and go rebuild mode without giving him another chance under a different coach and scheme. If his contract is as maneuverable as you claim it is then we shouldn't have any problems trading him at some point next season if all things go to hell. It's not like his trade value is at a all time high right now.

Kaepernick and all our QBs are/were Harbaugh guys. The guy was brought in as a QB guru so no way we weren't going to go with the guy he hand picked.

And if Baalke didn't go with the guy Harbaugh picked things would've blown up way sooner than they did.

Still highly unlikely they'll get rid of him next season.

The new coach is going to either love Kap's skillset and feel he can mold it into something or he has to work with Kap a year while he buys time for his handpicked QB to be ready to start.

Harbaugh did it with Alex Smith and Kap.

Jay Gruden has to put up with RGIII this season before he can grab his hand picked QB.

Whoever replaces him should strive to speak more words in a media session than Marshawn Lynch. They are neck and neck in the word count going into next week. First to 100 total words on the year will get two individually wrapped skittles.

Agreed, that wasn't my point though. Whether next year or the year after that, the next coaching will look to replace Kaepernick if he doesn't at least improve into a solid starter.

So would the current one. It's easier to scrap everything coming in from the outside, but Harbaugh is not someone who will sit idle. Harbuagh chose Smith initially as a bridge. Kaepernick is quickly turning himself into a bridge. While we had both Smith and Kaepernick a play was made for Manning. That same type of play would probably be made again this offseason if Harbaugh were around. Maybe not through FA, but an early draft pick would definitely be on the table. The QB search for every team is ongoing until an elite QB is found or developed. The time started ticking for Kaepernick to perform as soon as he signed the new contract.

Can I just say I'm weary of Kaepernick's churlish behavior in front of the press.
