MIKE HOLMGREN
According to the Bay Area Sports Guy, Mike Holmgren has expressed an interest in the 49ers job. This is coming from Trent Dilfer. Dilfer happens to be tight with York and Baalke. Interesting.

Re: MIKE HOLMGREN
My top choice is Sean Payton IF (a big IF) he gets let go in New Orleans. If not then Brian Kelly from Notre Dame is my second.
Hiring a retread just because if their name or a guy like Jim Tomsula is going to be a huge mistake.

Re: MIKE HOLMGREN
you think Kap can handle a Payton installed offense?
as well as, do we have the offensive personnel for it?

Re: MIKE HOLMGREN
i'm still holding out for harbaugh to stay despite apparent for certain claims.....
but Roman MUST be let go.... theres no reason to retain him anymore....
I personally cant figure out a replacement... not exactly a good crop out there... Not sold on Tomsula, sounds like a great motivator but thats all. he is 1-0 though as a HC lol...
can we pluck saban? lol i kid....

Of course he can't. But I can't see the front office being stupid enough to bring him back next season. There's no way.

Re: MIKE HOLMGREN
Could do way worse than Holmgren and I don't think we'd be terrible under him but I don't see the team being great with him either.
The only retread the mildly interests me is Brian Billick but I'm of the belief the next great coach is a guy that's unproven or under the radar and not a guy that's a retread.
I mean think of all the great coaches and most of them were guys that came from the coordinating or college ranks and not have been retreads.
You have some exceptions like most notably Belichick who had to go through failure to see what he needed to do next time around but most guys don't follow that route.

Please, NO Tomsula. That would be depressing. Payton would be cool. Would prefer young guy, but I wouldn't be too upset with Holmgem.

Re: MIKE HOLMGREN
Whats sad is I can't think of anyone out there better than Harbaugh. I think Roman needs to go but Harbaugh... but thats a lost cause.
My First choice would be Cowher he led a power run and defense led Steelers to winning seasons and super bowl appearances and wins. The Niners are built similar I think he would be a good fit if the Niners could convince him.
After that Holmgren would not be bad think the Niners would be competetive.
Sean Payton the Niners do not have the personell to fit his schemes.
Nick Saban or Les Miles... while I don't think either would leave their colleges but I would like them.
Past that David Shaw maybe... but I don't really see a better option unless we could trade Harbaughs with Baltimore.

So what if he is 66. Have you ever seen his resume? He is a great coach.

Art Shell was a great coach too until he came back 12 years later....

Can you really compare Art Shell to Mike Holmgren? Look at their resumes.

Tom Coughlin was a great coach too. He's not any more. And he hasn't been out of the league for a decade.
It could work, but it's not one of my favourite options. I suppose if he isn't going to be a GM too he might have a few years left in him.
I wish Harbaugh would stay, but that's not going to happen. Sean Payton would be a great pickup.

Re: MIKE HOLMGREN
The problem is, no one is blaming Sean Payton for the failure in NO, it's all on his defensive coaches

I agree with you 100%. I wish Harbaugh would stay too, so long as Roman is gone, but I am not sure that would ever happen. So I guess it's either Tomsula, Fangio, or someone from the oustide. As for Holmgren being GM, I say hell no. Baalke has done a good job overall since 2010. Holmgren was a horrible GM in Seattle and they stripped him of that and they finally started winning. Same with Cleveland, horrible as GM. But if he were to come to the Niners I am sure there would be an understanding that Baalke calls all the personnel shots.
