Sports Illustrated is reporting that Jim Harbaugh is leaning heavily towards signing with the Michigan Wolverines, especially after the two sides met in the Bay Area over the weekend. While he may still do a courtesy meet and greet with the Oakland Raiders, the belief is that he will coach his alma mater next fall.

I just got off the phone with more sources tonight. It's done. Jim Harbaugh is coming to Michigan - and his friends are flying in Monday.

I hate giving Bleacher Report page views with a passion, but................

In addition, he is expected to bring several coaches from the 49ers with him, including longtime assistants Reggie Davis and John Morton, according to sources.

and..........

Oakland, the New York Jets, Chicago and possibly Atlanta are the spots most often mentioned as being open at the end of the NFL season. Of those, sources said Harbaugh has questions about the ownership situations with the Raiders and Jets and doesn't believe that Chicago will meet his financial demands.

Meanwhile, kickoff time is nigh and so is the unhappy ending. Let's get it over with.

Amen.

Well on to another era of San Francisco 49er football. It was fun while it lasted.

FML.

Well, the Niners still have a chance at relevance if they get rid of Kaepernick. Time to show us you're not a moron Baalke.

Hilarious that a college program can out bid a professional one and yet they can't find a way to pay their athletes. :banghead:

Ian Rapoport:

When will #Michigan know Jim Harbaugh is their coach? When he gets on the university plane… which is now in California ready for him.

In local paper they are running an AP story that I cannot find a link to for best and worst NFL 2014. Niners come in behind the Bears as the most dissappointing team with the quote: "because of front-office discord SF is about to lose the best coach it has had since Bill Walsh." True dat.

Patience. Wait until more is confirmed. To think this is a one-sided fault type of thing would be foolish and stupid.

That's my concern. This has a Mariucci/Erickson feel to it. They've had all year to work on it. Let's hope they've got a legitimately viable replacement in mind. I'm just worried that may be Mangini. We'll see. For all of Harbaugh's issues, the guy can coach. Lots of room to get worse, particularly as we stand to lose a number of mainstays.

I'd also be at least a little irritated that we didn't get anything for him.

Alternate obnoxious tweet: (Fill in whichever website you work for) is reporting that Jim Harbaugh will be next head coach at Michigan.

No kidding.

I don't think anybody would've thought otherwise but...

Eric Branch:

Assuming Harbaugh, indeed, goes to Michigan, #49ers DC Vic Fangio not interested in returning to college. Was w/ JH at Stanford in 2010.
