IS IT POSSIBLE NINERS LET ALL FAs WALK?
Just wanted to get your guys opinion on possible Niners FA moves this offseason. Focusing mostly on big ticket FAs of course. Frank Gore, I can see him walking honestly. I love him to death, but better a year early than a year late. And considering that the Niners want to run more read option this season, it could spell the end for Gore in SF. He is a traditional I-formation back who never did like the read option when Niners ran it. Carlos Hyde on the other hand played a lot of read option in college and would be very effective. Crabtree I am not even getting into. Good bye and thanks for your service since 2009, though you didnt live up to your first round billing...Iupati is gone too. We may see some more zone blocking this season with Chris Foerster as the OL coach and Iupati is a road grader who excels in run blocking man to man schemes....On defense there are Culliver and Cox. It would honestly surprise me if they let both walk. But if they were to keep one, it would in my opinion be Culliver since he's the homegrown talent. But could they let him walk and upgrade with Byron Maxwell instead?

Iupati is going to be expensive. I liked him, but I don't think the Niners should compete with another team to sign him. Plus, I believe that he played below standards this season. The Pro Bowl nod was more on reputation. Iupati is going to be a tremendous pickup for another team.

How is Maxwell an upgrade over Culliver?? Let Iupati and Crabtree go they will both get to much money.

Someone desperate for a secondary receiver will throw too much money at Crabtree. He might be great in that role if he can mentally accept not being the top guy. That's a bit hard for some players to do.

Re: IS IT POSSIBLE NINERS LET ALL FAs WALK?
I would definitely let Crabtree go unless he is willing to come back for very cheap (which he won't be), he has the potential to be a great possession receiver but his injury history scares the crap out of me and he was extremely ineffective this past season.
Iupati was not great in pass protection for portions of the year which worries me. That and the fact that I don't like the idea of paying guards top dollar, means I want him to go.
Culliver, I just don't see what reason there is to resign him. He's not very good and he can be a bit of a knucklehead to boot.
I love Gore but I think it may be time to hang up the cleats. I however wouldnt be against signing him back for a reasonable price however im ready to give Hyde and Hunter the reigns.
Cox is a meh guy for me, I would resign him but I wouldn't break the bank. He looked excellent at times and at others he looked awful. I'd much rather look for someone in the draft or let Johnson have a shot.

Question the coaching hires all you want, but Baalke has earned some trust in the personnel department.

Iupati was a little shaky to start the season, but most of the way he played the same way he has for the better part of his career: great in the running game, something of a liability in the passing game. But he's arguably the best run-blocking OG in the league - and was this season - so I don't think the pro bowl nod was based on reputation alone.

Tend to agree by and large.
I think there's a decent chance Gore will be back. He can still produce, and he may have more value to the Niners than other teams. It would have to be a pretty reasonable, perhaps incentive-laden contract (tied primarily to team success).
Re: the CBs, I would like to see one of them back, probably Culliver. We're pretty thin at the position. Johnson looked good at times, but I'm not confident in him as the full-time starter just yet. Brock should be fully healed and ready to step in as the starter at one spot, and Ward takes the slot again, but then it's basically newbies in Acker and Reaser and probably a draft pick. I like the influx of youth, but with a (presumably) more aggressive scheme this year, we may need better play on the edges as it is. Not the end of the world if both guys walk, but I think we've got to do something in FA at the position.
That said, I don't want to do too much in FA this year. We could be looking at three valuable comp picks next year as things stand right now.
Oh, and one guy not mentioned here who I would probably look to bring back is Skuta. We're a little thin at OLB given Lemonier's regression last year and Brooks' almost certain departure. Skuta has been solid. I wouldn't overpay, and it's possible someone offers him starter money, but he's ideal depth IMO. Also assuming TJE returns as an ERFA.

Gore doesn't need to hang up the cleats just yet. Guy showed that he still has something left in the tank. He can be a contributor. Plus, he still wants to play. I'm fine with him sticking around for another season.

I think some of our own free agents will be back and some gone. The 49ers will not be active this year in pursuing other teams FA. Not anyone of significance anyway

Maxwell is a huge upgrade to Culliver. I agree with Iupati and Crabs, let them go, we'll see how Brandon Thomas has healed and Crabtree can be replaced with a more explosive talent from the draft

I'm not sure who will go and who will stay, but the real question for me is with who we already have on the roster, and who we add in the draft/trade/free agency, will we be a better team overall in 2015 than we were in 2014? If the answer is yes, then that's all that matters to me.

I think that will depend on how some of the young guys who were drafted the past couple of years turn out now that some of them could be getting significant roles on the team. A lot of those guys have played limited minutes the past couple of years.

Re: IS IT POSSIBLE NINERS LET ALL FAs WALK?
I've heard positive reports on Lynch and the two young guys we have on the o-line. Can anyone give me a bit of an idea of these three guys, their strengths and weaknesses, etc?

What two guys on the line are you referring to? Brandon Thomas and Marcus Martin? Lynch is a beast. Great talent that dropped in the draft due to character issues. If he continues to work hard and stay focused, he could be a great player for the 49ers and that could be a brutal combination with Aldon Smith, if Aldon can get back to old his old self. Aldon was ineffective last year when he did play.

According to ESPN we are one of the teams in the worst shape capwise. If that's true then we won't be do anything big in FA.

Re: IS IT POSSIBLE NINERS LET ALL FAs WALK?
Because of the cap pretty much everyone is going to be taking a hike in free agency.
And if you look at who we drafted last year it's clear Baalke was planning for it because he drafted in the positions that'll be most affected by FA.

Yep, Martin and Thomas are the ones I was thinking of.

I don't think iupati has been good the last two years and I'd let him walk, Crabtree seems to overvalue his talents and worth and will probably go. I think Baalke has been good in evaluating many positions, but some positions like tight end and receiver, He seems to have limitations. I'm more comfortable with him filling other holes through the draft than those positions.
