OT: UFC 184 - Rousey vs Zingano

Post#1 » by DoobieKeebler » Sun Mar 1, 2015 5:29 am

Wow. Ronda Rousey just threw some stank on it vs Cat Zingano, breaking her own record for the fastest title match submission in the history of the UFC (and tying the overall record for quickest submission in the UFC).

Next up for Rousey is almost certainly Holly Holm, but Holm is just another proverbial tin can opponent that will get judo tossed and armbar'd within 30 seconds. And that isn't to insult Holm, a decorated boxing champ in 3 separate weight classes, but pitting a boxer who looked pretty human against a supposed "warmup" opponent in Raquel "Rocky" Pennington, against a judo master sounds like an even more uneven match up than Rousey's last 3 fights (Sara McMann, Alexis Davis, Cat Zingano; the 3 fights lasting 1:36 combined).

Until the UFC can book Rousey vs Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino, I guess they will continue throwing blatant tin cans at Rousey in order to hype the brand.

It's not that they are giving her cans to fight, it's just that Rousey is that good. She is making women who are already really good, look like amateurs. I actually think Zingano would have been an interesting fight had she not made a terrible decision to rush in with a flying knee attempt to start the fight. You could tell during her walk up that she was way too intense. She was over hyped and that's why she ran across the cage instead of relaxing and fighting. The only way to beat Rousey is to pick her apart from the outside. Once she gets a hold of you, that's a wrap on that fight. Only now her hands are catching up and she is actually turing into a pretty good striker.

Holm is just like any other boxer who comes in. She is too far behind with her ground game and that will cost her against a top fighter like Rousey. If Cyborg comes to the UFC, I honestly think she will get smashed too. She beats girls much smaller than her, and she actually got beat up pretty good in a Muay Thai fight a while back. If she is tested and not on any juice, I think she will get tapped. That is, if she can even get to 135.

Side note... I was supposed to be at that event but got the tickets when it was still Weidman vs Belfort on the card. I asked for a partial refund or upgraded seats (still had $300 dollar seats) and they said no. I couldn't justify paying the same price of two title fights (Weidman Belfort having huge potential) for a replacement fight that should have been on the undercard.

Big IF there with Cyborg.
