Insult to injury if this is just a c**k tease. Being a 49er fan has been brutal since the NFCCG in Seattle.

Looks like a planned leak in order to gauge interest. Paraag has been known to leak things recently. It's easy enough for Baalke to deny this rumor.

Would like to see it verified by more than just one guy before I start to believe it.

The biggest issue I have with the story is the team literally has nobody else on the roster behind him as Gabbert and Johnson are free agents so what in the world would be their plan at QB?

Yeah it doesn't make sense, I think it's b.s.

Tent, you drove my coach away. You didn't get a WR in 2012 like I told you to. You didn't get DRC in 2013 like I told you to. You didn't get Revis last year.

Just do this one thing man. Just this once. I promise you'll be glad you did.

And how was it before Harbaugh got here? I think it is has been much better then what we had to deal with most of the 2000s

True, but at least back then I didn't have my hopes up. And that's a pretty low bar to clear.

I know you mean the NY Giants game in SF, but I feel your pain.

Anyone see the Transformers movie when you were a kid? Not the lame Michael Bay version; I mean the kick-ass 80's animated movie. Right now I feel like this is the 49ers' darkest hour, and Trent Baalke needs to open the Matrix of Leadership and redeem this abomination of an offseason by trading Kaepernick; thus he saves the day & the team lives on.

Come on Trentimus Prime! Light our darkest hour!

With Willis retiring and most likely Smith too, I'm 100% on board on trading Kaepernick. We need to rebuild.

Yeah a total rebuild will take the heat off Tomsula.

The one where Optimus dies?

EDIT: Does that mean Trent dies? Or that Jed York is the leader of the AutoBots? Oh! Scot McCloughan must have been Optimus, "lost his job as leader," and gave the Matrix of Leadership to Trent.

Blow it all up!

If today's news isn't the last straw to convince Baalke he needs to blow it all up, I don't know what is.

Do it Baalke! Now. Do it. Pick up the phone. Right now.

Looking ahead regarding the future of Kaepernick and the language of his contract, it doesn't seem like he'll be an All Pro or QB a legit Super Bowl contender for the next 2 seasons (at least), meaning his contract continues to deescalate each year and he stays easy to trade or cut, right? I know there is a "playing 80% of the teams snaps" clause that can trigger escalators, but since his contract is deescalating for 2015 season that must be only one of multiple requirements for him to pad his wallet. I'm not going to root for him to play poorly or for the team to lose, but isn't it safe to say that, barring injury, his contract will deescalate for most, if not the entirety of his Niners tenure?

The way I think of it is that right now there are probably teams that like Kaepernick a lot. If Torrey Smith can be a legit deep threat and Boldin stays Boldin, maybe Kaepernick gains trade value even if the team plays poorly. If a bad 2015 season turns into bad 2016/2017 seasons, Kaep could still be pretty good tradebait for whichever year's draft. If not because of stellar play, but because he is "just good enough," his contract will be manageable, and some coach or GM is gonna get all hot in their loins about "being able to change [Kaep]" and "make [Kaep] a better player," a la Chip Kelly & Mark Sanchez/Sam Bradford.

I'm just saying I don't think even Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, or Andrew Luck would be able to salvage 2015 and lead the team deep into the playoffs (maybe a WC win), so maybe keeping Kaepernick around isn't such a bad idea (Sick - I know you probably just threw up in your mouth) because he could either A) improve in the face of adversity, or B) stay the same, as I doubt he'll get much worse or get RGIII'd along the way.

If the team is going to replace Kaepernick, then it needs to draft a QB and start the process. Let him sit for a year or two and learn

I know bashing Kap is NinerSickness's favourite activity, but Kap is nowhere near as bad as he makes him out. Not even close.

Now by all means trade him if a deal comes along that just blows us out of the water, but this idea of trading him for garbage just to get rid of him is moronic. Kind of like how all of the success we've had with him as the starter has nothing to do with him and is all because of the TEAM, but then every time the TEAM fails, it's suddenly all because of Kap.

I saw that Transformers movie in the theater when I was 12. Thought it was the coolest thing ever for a period of time. I wouldn't trade Kaep unless we were to get Philip Rivers.
