I posted this in the off-season thread but it deserves its own.
@Rand_Getlin: Source: the #49ers are bracing themselves for the loss of LB Patrick Willis. Expecting him to retire.

This year those two retiring equals $11,674,500 in cap space.

It sucks for sure, but good thing Borland is there to ease the blow. Figured Smith was done, but didn't see the P-Willie thing coming at all.

@JayGlazer: Patrick Willis may be the most inspiring guy I've ever worked with. Went thru so much hardship yet never acted like life was against him
This makes it official

As I've said for a while now, Wilhoite is one of my favorite developmental players in the league from an on-the-field and an off-the-field perspective combined. It's quite sad the way things continue to go down but I'm excited to see what his future might look like if things had to happen. I'm assuming that if he possibly wasn't in the fold a couple days/weeks ago due to the trade possibility that he will be back in it again and that they haven't moved on for other reasons?
Part of me has always been operating with the notion that Bowman will never be too close to the same guy again either but we'll see about that. I love the little guy so much but if only we could give some of Willis' God given athletic ability to Borland and keep everything else the same about the guy.

So you're telling me three of my four favorite players on this team won't be here next year? wtf? Watch, now Bowman won't recover from the knee injury and the circle will be complete.

Josina Anderson:
#49ers source just told me as of late last week Patrick Willis was lifting at the facility. They are still in shock.

Starters remaining from the Super Bowl game assuming more doesn't go down and the players expected to be gone do go:
QB Colin Kaepernick
TE Vernon Davis
LT Joe Staley
RG Alex Boone
RT Anthony Davis
OLB Aldon Smith
ILB NaVorro Bowman

One more SF note: Told Willis reached this decision b/c he has a passion to work with youth; he also was still having issues with his feet.

Off hand I don't think there has ever been a stranger offseason for this team.

SF says it has not been told by Justin Smith that he's retiring. Smith has gone back & forth. Team working on ways (NFI?) to entice him back

If he's still having issues with his feet than I would say that's the main culprit in his decision and foot problems are no joke either if they are chronic.
