2015-16 Non-Niners Offseason Thread

Post#1 » by CrimsonCrew » Mon Jul 6, 2015 3:45 am

Thought we had a thread on this, but I didn't see it on the last two pages. Anyway, JPP apparently injured himself pretty seriously, though not career-threateningly, playing with fireworks. While waiting to sign his one-year franchise tender. What a moron.

I stumbled upon that yesterday and was first reported that he lost multiple fingers and possibly his thumb. Now just said that he burned the palms of his hands, and had some minor injuries to the tips of his fingers with one finger being tested for nerve damage. That's great news for him. Don't want to see anyone get severely hurt like that but man he's an idiot for putting himself in that spot.

Sounds like he had legal fireworks. He must have been really careless to get injured with those. I remember a roman candle blowing up in my cousin's hand. Those are illegal. Luckily, it blow up high enough so he didn't get injured. I had friends who would light m80s and throw them. Crazy.

Looks like CJ Wilson from the Bucs lost two fingers in a fireworks accident.

JPP trailing him by one. Jesus. Seems like the index finger would be somewhat important to rush the QB, no? Though certainly more important for a DB.

Is it just me, or does it seem like about 60% of bad offseason news stories come out of Florida? They should just make the state off-limits to professional athletes during the offseason.

I live in FL. There's a disproportionate number of idiots here (myself excluded, of course).

Wow. Kromer is a scumbag. I'm kind of iffy on believing he said he'd kill an entire family, but just setting a foot in Florida gives you a BAC of .05 so I wouldn't be that surprised. Drunk people do that stuff.

and Mem I misread your post. I was skimming and thought you said including not excluding

Justin Hunter - WR - Titans

Titans WR Justin Hunter was arrested in Virginia Beach on Monday.

There are very few details aside from the charges listed on the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office website. Under the "charges" section on Hunter, it lists "malicious intent, stabbing, cutting and wounding." Hunter was arrested at 12:10 PM Monday afternoon and isn't able to be freed on bond. Stay tuned for an update.

Justin Hunter - WR - Titans

Justin Hunter faces one charge of felonious assault following a July 3 incident in Virginia Beach, Va.

Hunter turned himself into authorities on Monday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He'll be arraigned on Tuesday. The July 3 incident took place at the Sandbar Raw Bar. Hunter has been jailed in the city jail on no bond. Already on the hot seat with the Titans, this could be Hunter's final straw.

Gotta be honest, really seems like they're trying too hard:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/13295743/seattle-seahawks-win-11th-trademark-related-number-12

And the whole "12" jersey with "fan" on the back is an immediate indication to me that someone is not much of a fan.

They may not be very serious fans, but it's genius marketing.

Niners have the "Faithful," and that's all well and good, but the "Twelfth Man" thing implies the fans are actually part of the team. They obviously aren't part of the team, but instead of wearing someone else's jersey and living vicariously through that player, fans have their own designated number and are given credit for wins. It isn't like normal teams where a player says "The fans really helped out today." No, in Seattle they say, "The 12th Man really came up big for us today."

It plays on the fans delusions of being a part of the team. The whole "The Seahawks really beat the Niners today" vs "WE really beat the Niners today." These "fans" are wearing THEIR OWN NUMBER like they were on a football team, when 90% of them never stepped on a football field in their lives, save for a touch football game.

Marquise Goodwin - WR - Bills

Bills WR Marquise Goodwin qualified for the long-jump finals at the Pan Am Games in Toronto.

It took Goodwin just one jump. He leaped 8.5 meters (26.41 feet), and only needed to beat 8.0 meters to qualify for Wednesday night's finals, which can be seen on ESPN2. Goodwin failed to qualify for the World Championships last month when he finished fourth in the long jump at the U.S. Championships.

Sure, they've done a great job of co-opting the Aggies' slogan.

Earl Thomas told Ed Werder he'll miss training camp and at least the first game of the regular season. He's really their best defensive player, and I believe Baalke passed on him to draft either Davis or Iupati.

He took Davis a couple picks before Thomas went. I really wanted Thomas, much more so than Davis at that point. Not too many times I can say I called it, but I did on that one. Thomas is simply instrumental to their D. His elite range and instincts allow all the other members of that secondary to be much more aggressive than they could otherwise be. They couldn't play that trail technique they like so much without him locking down the back end.

They play GB in their second game. It would be huge if they were missing Thomas for that. They're very thin at safety, at least in terms of experienced players. They'd better hope they hit on a diamond in the rough.
