Just saw this...wow

Well hopefully he gets suspended this year for a lengthy time this year. Maybe he is keeping his options open for returning with us after this year?

I thought we were the new Raiders? lol....

is Aldon still eligible to play? I mean, Idk how long the process will set itself out but if he can play with them for a good chunk, why not?

Maybe 1 year was all any team was willing to offer him.

Didn't the Cowboys sign Hardy only to a 1 year deal?

Really hoping Goodell slams Aldon with a year ban like Gordon.

Imagine if it comes to play that the latest incident was nothing. I'll be pissed.

Well with Goddell having so many of his suspensions reversed, he may be gun shy or may let someone else do the discipline.

And Aldon and the NFLPA could take the league to court too if the discipline is too severe.

He served the full 9 games, while Hardy, who is alleged to have committed a far more serious crime, had his suspension reduced from 10 to 4 games.

Only the 49ers get screwed by the NFL.

He was charged today. Just misdemeanors, but one is a DUI. Given his history, a year ban certainly seems possible.

I know that was he 4th or 5th strike with us but I can't help but feel we got screwed or shot ourselves in the foot.

I understand why cutting him had to be done but if nothing on the discipline side is coming or not for the time being, I can't help but feel selfish and feeling he should've stayed on board and take what we can get.

The NFL is such a messed up league...

Aldon and Hardy are playing for other teams now and you rarely hear any outcry for the teams who sign them. But if we had kept Smith or Panthers kept hardy it would be all over the news.

It never works out when teams have to trade away or let go talented players.

Haley, TO for the 49ers.

Webber for the Warriors.

this whole news thing is just reminding me that we don't have a killer pass rusher anymore...

Lynch is hopeful but not on Aldon's level.

Here comes the blitz!

Aldon wasn't exactly terrorizing lineman last year despite supposedly being focused and in the best shape of his life. I still wanted him here and think he can regain his dominance but that is not certain to happen.

I mean, Aldon signed today. Can we really say you don't hear any outcry at this point?

Though I would distinguish the two cases. Hardy's actions were far more heinous.

Two problems.....

1) The quantity of our players having run-ins with the law (misdemeanors or otherwise) puts us under more scrutiny.
2) Jed's infamous "win with class" line. You talk the talk, you better walk the walk.

The reality is he's gone....even though he's talented his presence has been unreliable for the last 12-18 months. I don't care how talented an individual is, if he's not on site and contributing day to day, it hurt more than it helps.

He's gone....let's move on.

Aldon is a multiple offender though which is why his punishment has been harsher and he still might get hit hard because even if it was minor he still was arrested again.

The only thing that might save him is he Goodell might be gun shy about hitting guys with the hammer since he's reputation has taken a big beating as of late.

IF Aldon keeps his head straight, he and Mack are going to be a load to handle. Working under the tutelage of Justin Tuck should help him on and off the field as well.

Aldon Smith - LB - Raiders

According to ESPN's Ed Werder, OLB Aldon Smith impressed coaches at Friday's practice and will play in Sunday's opener against the Bengals unless the NFL prevents it.

Smith must have stayed in shape during his month-long hiatus. The expectation was that Smith would be eased into action but now the Raiders plan on using him right out of the gate. The 25-year-old can still bring the heat. He finished with PFF's 26th highest grade among 3-4 outside linebackers last season.
