2015 Week 2 49ers at Steeler Pregame thread

Hope I got the thread format right.

I think this will be tough, after a MNF game to go all the way across the country on a short week, probably 10 AM PST start.

Good that the Steelers don't have Pouncey, Bell, Martavis Bryant.

But they still rolled up 464 yards of offense, including 330 yards passing. Brown got 133 yards of it so Ben spread the ball around.

First thing is to take away the run preferably with both safeties back, so that they don't have to be vulnerable to the play fake.

Steelers defense was disorganized and they have a lot of youth on the team but it was mostly on spread formations that they didn't seem to have their assignments down.

Pats lined up in a heavy formation at the goal line, forcing the Steelers to go with more LBs. But then split out Bronk and Chandler right before the snap and one on one matches with the LBs favored the TEs. Can the 49ers do the same? Or run as effectively as week 1 to force the Steelers into unfavorable matchups?

Short week and cross country travel does hurt, but our D only played 56 snaps, and our team is much younger this year. I hope the young bucks recover quickly.

The offense of Pitt is a much much bigger challenge but their D can be exploited. If they had Bell, I'd say our chances would be extremely low. They've got 10 days rest as well.

They have kicker issues as well, don't they?

This is a "keep Ben on the sidelines" game strategy.

The key to this game is pre-snap motion. That's what had Gronkowski wide open, literally unguarded 2 or 3 times in this game. RBs out of the backfield and TEs should get their fill of targets too. We're not going to dominate the Steeler front seven as easily as the Vikings, should be interesting to see if the OL can continue to play with that kind of fortitude.

Could have really used Bush in the passing game.

I consider the Vikings and Cardinals as must win games out of the first four.

The deck couldn't be more stacked with the Steelers game so I consider it a bonus if they pull out a victory. I believe it's a winnable game as I would say the Steelers are just a good team not a great one so I would put them in the same weight class.

I just consider the Cardinals a bigger statement game as it's a divisional opponent that is a strong contender to win the division and the deck isn't quite as stacked like the Steeler game.

Going 1-2 over the next 3 games is a must but I would consider 2-1 a huge win for the team. And if they somehow go 3-0 I would prepare a big fat crow to eat and give the coach of the year award early to Tomsula.

I think the 49ers are likely to have moments and games but over the course of the season, the depth losses and the weaknesses like the right side of the OL will probably show up and prove too much to overcome.

The other thing is, Hyde can't do 25-30 touches a game. He'll burn out, be more susceptible to injury. The Vikings were taking head shots at him, probably why they sometimes didn't make good tackles.

Davis needs to be the #2 to give Hyde a break.

Bush is way too fragile to depend on.

I'm not so entirely concerned with our secondary and their WRs. I really think we can do a good job on Brown since we have the speedy CBs to match ourselves. The key is communication out there and keep a safety at top IMO. Other than that, their run game should be handled by our front 7 based on their MNF performance. Far from disruptive individually but we look good collectively.

Hopefully the blitez come and hit their target. If we whiff at big Ben, we are shooting ourselves in the foot.

Week 1 is always misleading at times.

While i don't think we are going to drop down to what experts think we should be. I believe the steelers are better than they showed against the Pats. And hell they were still right in that game in the 4th quarter.

Cant make too much of the whole short and long week for the teams as its only week 2. Maybe the time change?

Anyways Kap will need to take another step up this game as you can be sure the Steelers will crowd the box and focus on Hyde like most teams do against us.

Definitely a winnable game here. Not a must win but we will be heading into some tough games here and we need to take what we can get now.

Need to pressure Big Ben and not allow him to get out of the pocket for big down field plays to Brown and Wheaton. Probably going to need to get Torrey Smith more involved in this one to stretch the field, because the Steelers will most likely bring an extra man to try and shut down Hyde. I don't like the short week for us and long preparation for the Steerlers though.

The short week means less preparation time. affects the team regardless of what time of the year it is. But that is part of the NFL and have to make the best of it.

My worries.....

---Young team getting "the big head" after the MN win
---Missing tackles on Big Ben and him burning us down field
---Heath Miller. When healthy dude can be crafty.
---Antonio Brown

I am going to have to record this game and try to go throughout the whole day (until 5 or 6 central) without seeing the score. It will be tough
