Defense. Run D was good. Overall they played well on run D. Pass defense atrocious. No pass rush. Only got close to Big Ben once maybe twice. Big Ben burned 49ers on blitzes. secondary was lost out there. Screw ups in zone. Wilhoite covering a receiver? You give Big Ben that much time, he will rip you up.

Yeah I was just gonna say, it'll be interesting if the Jets win tomorrow, two new coaches the 49ers should have pursued.
Kaep had 335 yards on 33/46 passing, 2 TDs. Too bad most of it was too little too late.
They loaded it up to stop Hyde and the 49ers waited too long to open up the offense.
49ers need to hire away the NE TE or WR or RB coach to be the OC. Then go to a spread offense when necessary to take advantage of individual mismatches. Maybe someone like Bell could be the cheap version of Gronk.

Instead they have them in big formations trying to run through people. Sometimes it works as in the Vikings game.
But easy enough for the Steelers, and probably other teams to stop. In one sequence in the goal line, they ran 3 times into the A-gap, got nothing, then on 4th down they throw to wide open Miller and he can't come down with it.
Why do they have draft athletic TEs to have them block most of the time?

Kap had a good game and honestly had NO help from his OL or recievers for the most part.
Am I shocked? no, cuz I, like many, did not believe in this OL. The MNF was a mirage and I feel or sensed that this type of performance was going to be a weekly occurrence as the season goes on.
I still feel Torrey isn't being used properly but when Kap finally hit him, the numbers n result did not lie. Make this happen more!
Defense... what a wreak. Completely horrible in everything you can think of. There was no game plan vs big Ben yet Tomsula harp on that they did. GTFO...
Very disappointed in our secondary today, that was too much of awful play

How did
Kaepernick have a good game? He did nothing until the team was down by 100 points & got some garbage yards. The team had 3 points until the 4th quarter.

Kap had a good game. He led a number of drives that were killed no fault of his own. He took a bad sack. One drive three drops of easy passes including MIller's awful drop in the end zone. Every time the offense responded, the defense gave up a TD the following possession. You could have had Aaron Rodgers playing QB for the 49ers today and we would have still lost

I am one to crucify Kap when it is right and do not hesitate in doing so.
But I did not see help from the OL who were killing him(right side specifically), his WRs who were out of character dropping easy catches, actual poor blocking(IMO) from our TEs in Kap runs and suspect playcalling in the redzone.
Trust, I won't defend Kap to a T but today, I thought he did his part and didn't set us back like his supporting cast.

Kap was good, considering the pass blocking sucked. As for the defense, the main culprit IMO is not the secondary, but a lack of a pass rush. Face it, Ahmad Brooks and Aaron Lynch are good players, but they would greatly benefit from having a great pass rusher on the other side. We had one in Aldon Smith, but he's no longer on the team. Time to draft the next great pass rusher.

True his stats were a bit inflated because of garbage time but the flip side of this is they really didn't start slinging it around until the game was in garbage time.
I thought he had a good not great game and he did still did some things that make your want to smack him in the head but seeing him the past two weeks he's clearly made progress as a QB.
How far he can take that is still up for debate but he definitely didn't get much help from anybody on offense today and he's probably the only guy on O that had a good game.
Pass blocking was atrocious and just way too much interior pressure which is just unforgivable to me and the past two season there has been too much of it.
There were some bad drops and bad penalties at bad moments that were killers especially the Boldin drop on the 1st drive that would've kept the drive going and Pears penalty being within 10 of the end zone followed by the ultra conservative play calling by Geep. After that the Steelers poured it on and left little hope for a comeback than.

Kaep had a good game but some of those red zone throws were horrible. He also had a TD he could have easily ran in

Unfortunately, great pass rushers are so hard to find. From the time Charles Haley was traded to the time Aldon Smith was drafted, the 49ers drafted a long list of OLB's trying to find that great pass rusher. Some were outright busts, while others turned out to be okay players, none of pick ever became elite pass rushers.

we rather draft backup safeties or backup raw DL in the first rounds....

Pass blocking was okay for a stretch, when the 49ers were way behind and the Steelers knew they had to pass. Attacking that Steelers secondary didn't seem to be in the game plan until they were way behind.
Kaep dropped back and drove some nice passes as soon as he planted his back foot. Got into a bit of a rhythm but who knows, Steelers may have been willing to concede some catches to burn the clock, though there were some chunk plays.
Secondary, especially the CBs, bear watching. Baalke chose to let Cox and Culliver go, believing Acker and Reaser could play. Neither of them had a snap before he let the vets go. Now maybe those were the right moves for the salary cap. But who knows if either of them will even be decent pros.

Meh. I hope we lose every **** game.
I don't wanna go back to being a treadmill team. I want Baalke and this coaching staff gone, and hope we can pair Jared Goff and Sean Payton here in SF.

Not sure yet how the 2016 draft is shaping up with OLBs, but we will probably be picking high so we'll see.

My thoughts:
Coaching was absolutely terrible.
DC "ManGenius" - we knew that Pittsburg have one of the best deep ball throwers in the game, we also knew that they have one of the best deep ball receivers (or recievers in general) on the team. We also saw on ye first drive that our CB's were gonna struggle covering the deep ball one on one. At this point any DC worth a darn would make sure that the corners had safety help over the top throughout the game, we failed to do this and were hammered repeatedly.
CB's - Why are the CBs playing up on the WR's when they are consistently burned? Give some cushion.
Safeties - Damn.......
OC - We knew that Pittsburg struggled with the pass. Why did we not exploit this early in the game? I understand they were bringing some heat, so you run a draw or a screen to slow them down. We waited until the game was over to start taking some shots.

Not only did our defense and d coordinator stink the bed.
But g Chryst and the o line totally put us off rhythm. Horrible play calling that threw us off rhythm early

It boggles my mind that people are calling that a good game by Kaepernick. It's like they've been brainwashed or something.
Have 49er fans simply forgotten what a good game by a QB looks like?
