Can't wait 'til he's gone next season. He was clearly "drafting" behind Anthony Adams at RG.

The entire OL is discombobulated right now. No one has had any time to gel with player next to them, and we've got two completely unproven guys on the right side (which baffles my **** mind).

I'll give Martin a pass seeing as he's still a baby by NFL standards (21).

Devey & Pears are stop-gap players, so criticizing them would be kind of pointless. They're exactly what everyone expected they would be.

Boone, on the other hand, has gone from either making it look like he's good or actually being good to sucking out loud (not just today but last year too). I thought you were supposed to put forward your best performance in a contract year, but apparently he didn't get the memo.

Next year, let's hope Davis is back and blocking for our new rookie QB.

Before the season, I had question the announcement of stacking our "two better" OL in one side.

Is it wise or is there real significant benefits from Staley/Boone vs Staley/Thomas with Boone covering the right side?

Wonder if they might move Boone to his original position of tackle and replace pears with him?

For a guy that stresses depth Baalke whiffed when it came to the offensive line.

Granted it's not like he's completely ignored the O line and some of the problems stem from picks not producing as planned but the offensive line was terrible last year and somehow they've gotten even worse.

The biggest issue I take with Baalke over this is with the backup OT position. The backup OT hasn't been good for years and why he thought the worst starting OG in the league was somehow going to make a suitable backup G and especially OT is beyond me.

I've said it before the season and I'll say it again. Put Thomas and Brown in there and let them get the reps and experience. It's hard to believe they'd be significantly worse than what's in there and these guys actually have decently high ceilings so I would rather them take the lumps now than later.

Yes agree get the young guys in there and work towards finding a long term solution. They've had time to learn the system with the red-shirting. I too am at a loss for why they didn't shift Boone to RT as soon as Davis vacated. Then they could have plugged youth into the guard spots and allowed things to congeal. We'd be struggling either way. Now if they change the line mid-year, it will take another transition and more time. I'm sure if another team had a few of those young guards, one of them would be plugged into the offense by now. Time to start actually using the G stockpile, vs. stockpiling the stockpile.

I agree with criticizing Baalke when it comes to OT depth. We've been weak there for some time. But overall depth, it's tough to be too hard ton him. We are down two of five starters when you consider how he was envisioning our OL during FA and the draft. In theory, Boone was going to be a stop-gap OT if we needed one. But then Kilgore went out longer than expected and Martin had to move to center, Davis retired and it was clear we'd need a season-long starter, and Thomas' development was taking longer than anticipated. I'd be getting really close to putting Thomas in at LG and kicking Boone over to either RG or RT. If our OL is going to suck anyway, might as well suck seeing what the young guys can do.

Pears is currently ranked 63 out of 70 for NFL OTs. That is really bad. I don't expect him to get much better at this point. It was a concern when the coaching staff started playing musical chairs with the starting lineup during training camp and the preseason. No one seemed to play well enought to claim the starting jobs. The 49ers ended up starting a RG who wasn'yt even on our roster at the start of TC. We have that center from Baltimore who looked really good in preseason. Maybe start him at center and then put Kilgore at one of the guard spots? Somehow it would be nice to be able to replace Pears at RT,

I would say Kilgore at LG, Easton at C, Martin at RG, and Boone at RT could possibly be the strongest combination of guys and would be what I would try if I wanted the strongest group of guys.

I'm not giving him a pass, by any means, but how different does our OL look if we've got Staley, Kilgore, Boone, and Davis playing at their set positions alongside a single younger player (Martin?) at OG? It's night and day, and the OL is a strength instead of a total liability. Martin has been disappointing to date. He was really young coming out, but I thought he'd be more prepared. Thomas I give more of a pass to. He was injured and is being asked to change positions. I just don't see how he could be worse than the guys who are in there....

I'm with Crimson. If Brandon Thomas is healthy, put him in at LG and see what we have. Move Boone back the right as and just go from there.

I don't we as a fanbase are overreacting here either, the #s spoke for themselves prior and after, Pears and Devey are unreliable individually, together, that's QB sabotage.....

I rather we try out Brown on that side if Boone won't get moved over. At least with Brown you can only go up.

Are you talking about Pears and Devey? Pears is hardly a young player.

Moving Boone over was a real head-scratcher. Sure, it gives you what should, in theory, be one very strong side. But it makes the other a total liability. From what I've seen in my years of watching football, you're better off pairing a young guy with an experienced guy so the young guy has some stability. Putting Martin, Devey, and Pears all in a row seems a dubious plan at best. And then not playing them in the last preseason game was a total head scratcher. They needed time to work together in game situations.

I will say, perhaps we're being a bit knee-jerk on the OL and, as a result, the coaching staff. The right side did a fair job in the first game. Not much looked good in the second. I'm willing to give these guys another game or two, but if we continue to be awful, might as well be awful with upside.

When people talk about the coaching staff, Chris Foerster is considered a very good oline coach and has an impressive resume especially with the run game

I'm really hoping when Kilgore comes back that it is Staley, Thomas, Kilgore, Martin, Boone. There is really no reason for it not to be. The coaching staff can't continue to ignore how awful Devey and Pears are.

Brown was actually raved and praised for a bit after AD retired. The propaganda dissipated towards the end but why not?

Thomas, that cat I didn't hear a lot of praise nor necessarily poor reviews. Pretty much didn't stand out IIRC. Or maybe not enough?
