"I would say the biggest thing is I'm being asked to be myself this year," Kaepernick said. "And I don't think anyone knows how to be myself better than me. So it's a comfort zone for me. It's a situation where I'm not being asked to do things outside of my character."
Meaning he feels as though he was asked to do things outside of his character before?
"Outside of how I would normally handle situations, yeah," Kaepernick said.
Kaepernick was then asked whether he was talking specifically about being in the pocket more or being told to not go outside the pocket.
"No," Kaepernick said. "I'm getting at that I was asked to do things outside of my character."
Character?
"I mean, they asked me to wear a Miami Dolphins hat, hang out with Seattle Seahawk players, invite some strange woman into my house, and pose for SI... out of my character, though the SI thing was pretty cool, as it provided a break from all they film study I've been meaning to do."
Just kidding, I'm not actually suggesting he didn't film study or that there isn't a limit for value from such studying or that he doesn't deserve some time off.
It seems, instincts or natural skills (as in strengths) seems like the better word. Was character being asked to not do well in certain situations? Or was it trying to get better at a weakness? Obviously, he wanted more freedom to either run, make a riskier throw in a conservative system, or get out of the pocket and he felt he'd be better off in certain situations to do so but he couldn't.
