Old Drafts Revisited

If you could go back in time to 2013 and either select Eric Reid (loved him in that draft) or Tyler Eifert (he was actually the guy I would've taken), whom would you rather have?
I think I'd actually rather have Eifert. He did nothing today, but in today's NFL a good TE is way more valuable than a good safety IMO.

No... Eric Reid for sure.
He was great as a rookie, made a few INTs but opposing QBs admitted that they avoided throwing in his direction. Credit to him.
He answered the would be hole or aided the departure of Goldson at FS.
This whole level of complex thinking by Mangini is ruining what was working beforehand.
Eifert just starting playing consistently, nothing of a HR as of today IMO.

Yes, Reid's been a great player IMO. He regressed a little last year, but he's good as long as he stays healthy.
There's just something about
Eifert that makes me wish Baalke listened to me. Imagine if he didn't have a sucktastic QB.

Pozz and I wanted Hopkins.
So let's jump a few replies down to the part where we are all seeing a regression in Eric Reid. Possibly it could have to do with Mangini, but he's never been great in pass coverage. Always saw him as a downhill safety. The slew of elite QBs we're facing back to back to back really exposed Reid. So, should he be benched for Ward next weekend against Aaron Rodgers?—I think so.

what rationale is there for a Ward for Reid exchange?
Reid is being killed with this defensive scheme, something is way off here... not just him, Bethea is out of wack and our LBs give up or play soft as sh*t zone.... something is flawed there...
starts with Mangini IMO.

Look at last week, Reid was there and just didn't make the plays. That tells me the scheme isn't as complex as you're pretending it to be. Today, Reid+Ackers' side of the ball was just getting decimated. I'll have to look back at the game, but still hasn't done anything that gives me faith in him in pass coverage

I disliked the Eric Reid pick. I wish there was a way to post our post draft comments for that year - in particular that pick. We all new that Tyran Mathieu would turned out to be the better safety. We freaking traded up to get him.

It looks like Arik Armstead is going to be a future all-pro in the league within 2 more years of him developing.

I think everyone knew
Mathieu was a great player, but the dude was a drug addict at the time.
When you gamble on picks, sometimes they're a
Lattimore; sometimes they're an
Aaron Lynch.

Hope so. I'll happily eat my words if so. I did mention, when he was drafted, that he reportedly played hurt all last season; that may have been why his play didn't look like it justified the 17th pick.

Speaking of old drafts, had we drafted Earl Thomas instead of one of the o lineman (Davis or Iupati I forget which), this wouldn't have been an issue.

Good call. I don't think anyone wanted
Anthony Davis (I wanted
Derrick Morgan), and
Thomas would've been a great pick.

That was a McCloughan/Singletary draft all the way.
All Mike wanted to do was hit people in the mouf, remember?

Reid was out of position last week. Vs the steelers, Acker/CB had miscommunication with the S all game.
I don't think Reid was there as you say. Maybe a few but majority he was chasing cause the scheme moved him out of his field and CB provided no press or jam.
What about his rookie year? He had one bad game (unfortunately it came at the NFC tit game) but that was 18 games into his NFL career, not a bad start.

Eric Reid is a good pick/trade up. Other than concussions, which no one saw, he really hasn't been an issue.
We HARDLY gave up the big plays when we had him out there before this year. QBs were avoiding throwing in his direction for a reason.

When you have Willis, Bowman, Aldon, Justin, McDonald harassing QBs on any given down, of course this will make life much more easier back there for you.

Goldson was a liability himself even when with the aforementioned but he personally(IMO) did better towards the end and into the playoffs(giants game he had eli picked!)
Reid is fine and one of the better safeties out there, Mangini needs to GTFO.
