Meanwhile, Trent lets every player who hits FA to go. Good thing they extended Staley years ago or the OL would be even more of a wreck.

Now, watch him extend deadweights like Martin and Thomas.

He extended Williams, probably the one guy we really should have extended. We extended Celek on a reasonable deal and he may start for us. Hell, we even brought back Dawson. Boone is literally the only guy we lost, and given his age and recent play, he was far from a must-sign. He had one very strong year, but otherwise has been only okay, really.

Don't get me wrong, we have A LOT of ground to make up on Seattle, but they've almost certainly gotten worse during FA.

Remember, your own players don't count. :) Or, if I actually have to be fair, it doesn't feel nearly as good to some people when your team is in a crappy situation and the additions are your own former players.

Another statement that is true IMO that doesn't get a lot of run but should? Not doing anything and trying to do something and swinging out are two different things. Both don't feel good to fans but are two completely different things and in the 49ers situation right now one is far more likely to be going on than the other, IMO.

What them get more out of their rookies than Trent's picks.

Trent is a bargain hunter when it comes to contracts. You hope it's him, not Paarag still feeding him his whacked out ideas, despite supposedly no longer being in the loop.

He must get a bonus for how much cap space he maintains, the way he acts as if he's spending his own money.

At least on the surface, yeah, the same "whacked out" ideas (actually, analytics and advanced scouting) that has now been adopted by over 95% of the NFL the last time I did a thorough check.

Now, whether one wants to attack how they go about running that system is another thing. However, that would take someone to have inside knowledge of their exact practices. Would love to meet a fan if there is one who somehow got intel into how they run their overall system but obviously I'm very doubtful that any fan like that exists and it's another stupid, uninformed argument that is still far too common among today's 49ers fans.

Well 95% of the NFL are signing free agents.

And for the past couple of years, they've been drafting better than the 49ers.

Actually 100% of them in 2012.

Junior Galette signs a 1-year deal with the Redskins. Looks like a 1-year prove it deal after his ACL injury. Not like the 49ers couldn't use more pass-rushing help.

Looks like McCloughan will again have a better record than Baalke this year.

One-year prove-it deals make sense for playoff teams. They don't make sense for a team in the Niners' position. We're a couple years out. Not to mention that Galette is not the type of guy you want to bring into a relatively young locker room.

Sarcastically I would say Baalke's disappearing act isn't helping the cause or notion of being a couple years out...

there's no improvement at all roster wise thus we should expect similar results next season unless Kelly has cheat codes in his playbook lol....

the draft can't fix all and under Baalke isn't the greatest route either ATM.

way too early but this is currently the list of scheduled FAs in 2017. Much more variety in terms of available(potential) players.

NE has their work cut out for them extension wise. Yikes. Biggest reason they unloaded Chandler Jones.

http://www.csnbayarea.com/49ers/mailbag-what-49ers-gm-baalke-waiting/

There were 99 players signed on the first three days of free agency. Only 10 of those players, including aging punter Shane Lechler and quarterback Matt Schaub, have ever made an initial Pro Bowl roster (does not include players added later as alternates). Of the free agents signed over those three days, only three made the Pro Bowl in 2015. Center Alex Mack was the only one of those three to change teams.

I have next to nothing expectation wise, but also don't forget about where the Eric Rogers addition might sit in their minds when thinking about off season additions as well. They gave him the most lucrative deal by a CFL player since Cam Wake - $225,000 guaranteed.

Now I suppose some will take that to me saying that we all should get excited over him, how he's going to be an offensive savior, and that the team doesn't need to keep looking for good deals. :)

Per source, G Evan Mathis has agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal with the Cardinals. He takes Jonathan Cooper's spot on the roster.

Rand Getlin:

I'm told LB James Laurinaitis has agreed to terms with the #Saints.

Im told it's a 2-year deal with a base value of $6.5M for DL Quinton Coples and the #Rams. Max value of $9.75M. Great landing spot for him.

Shea McClellin to the Pats, apparently. Seems like the sort of player Baalke likes to target: former first rounder who underachieved on a bad/mediocre squad. Has some position flexibility, too.

@caplannfl: #49ers and former #Jaguars G Zane Beadles agreed to terms on a 3-year, $11.75m deal, per source.

Beadles will be a solid replacement for Boone and he won't be outspoken or cause drama like Boone.

Beadles played through plantar fasciaitis for most of this year.

If I am going off of what I remember of him in college, and I am a bit of a Utes fan, who has family that went to the school, and what I saw in Denver, he was a much better fit there in Denver from a schematic standpoint, and I could see Kelly and comany believing he is or could be a much better fit in his system than he ever could have been in Jacksonville.

Beadles has experience on the outside as well and could be a swing player for them if in a bind. Maybe not a good one, but a swing player nonetheless.

Would I have personally gone after him? No, but I THINK I can see what they are going after with this signing.

Gotta hope he returns to his Broncos form being back in a zone blocking scheme.
Since he was cut he doesn't offset Boone as a free agent loss in the comp pick formula. Another Baalke special. Still on track for a 4th rounder next year.
