Worst offensive line in 30 years according to Mark Schlereth

He's talking about 12 years as a player and then 15 years as a broadcaster:
http://www.csnbayarea.com/49ers/ex-nfl-lineman-49ers-o-line-worst-last-three-decades"Because they didn't block anybody," three-time Super Bowl winning offensive lineman and current analyst Mark Schlereth said. "It's endemic, to play great offense, you've got to actually block people. You've got to actually control the line of scrimmage.
"In 12 years of playing, and 15 years of broadcasting, it's the worst I have ever seen an offensive line play consistently across this league. It's pathetic."
"It was awful last night," Schlereth added. "It was an exclamation point on how pathetic the San Francisco 49ers are.
"'Oh Colin Kaepernick, it's time to move on, he can't play.' Stretch Armstrong couldn't play behind that line of scrimmage right there. I don't care if you're a super hero, you're not doing anything behind the way they played last night. They should be embarrassed ... C'mon, clown. Block somebody."

Dumbfounding how we went from one of the best OLs in the league to arguably the worst in a few years.
It's time for a total rebuild. Try and flip everyone.

But I thought Alex Smith's line was worse? Kidding.
Fans in the KNOW, know that Anthony Davis 'should' be back next year. That should shift Boone back over to the right side and allow someone not named Devey to play LG (Brandon Thomas).
2016 looks really good for the 49ers minus the whole who will be starting behind center thing

Will they extend Boone after this year?
Sounds like they will have no choice unless they plan to use their top pick on an OL.
As for Thomas, there are high hopes but why hasn't he gotten into the starting lineup? Can he only play LG?
Tomsula reiterated that they're still aiming for the playoffs. But after a few more losses, they will probably be mathematically out of it. At that point, why wouldn't they play Thomas, to see how he performs?

I am not surprised by this at all. When the team started Pears at RT, the worst Guard in the NFL last year and Devey, you could see this happening a mile away.

The most annoying thing about Devey is the fact that he didn't even compete to earn the job after we traded for him. He was handed the starting job and even this current "competition" with Tiller, where he is clearly inferior he is still given some strange benefit of the doubt.
I could see giving him this much of a leash if he was a long time 49er who had success in the past but fell off, but he's never been anything but ****.

Completely agree. Why not sign Evan Mathis? Maybe he wanted too much money for his age who knows. But this OL, especially the right side is atrocious.

Hey now David Carr o line was pretty bad and right now the Seahawks online is worse.
Lol but in all seriousness they suck. Staley and Boone have even had some bad play this year.
Still not sure why Boone wasn't slotted at RT to begin the season or hell even RG. Why go so heavy on the left side?

This oline combined with one of the worst QBs at navigating the pocket and I fully expect us to finish dead last in offense. Chryst is dangerously close to dropping into Raye and Hostler territory as well.

I am not sure anyone was given a job on the oline. Not saying the right choices were made because I wasn't there watching what was going on but the team was constantly rotating lineman during training camp and the preseason before finally settling on a starting unit by the start of the season. My big question mark is Brandon Thomas. What happened with him. Did he look that bad this year to basically disappear down the depth chart?

We don't know whether the 49ers pursued Mathis, but he turned down more money from Miami to go to Denver. It apprears Mathis wanted to play for a contender and that being the case, the 49ers would be probably be among one of the last places he would want to be given the perception this offseason of the organization. The team would have had to drastically overpay him to try and get him here and I don't see the point of that

As bad as the OL, they didn't bother to try to help out on that side. No chipping, no help with the TE on that side, so it was Devey and Pears one-on-one against Bennett over Devey and Avril over Pears?
And Bennet was rushing wide, just running by Devey towards Pears, who was also being pulled wide by the end. You wonder if something like a draw might have worked there. They never tried so we'll never know.
And they kept having Kap take deep drops. I was watching some of the KC game and Reid is giving Smith a lot of 3-step looks.
But they wanted to keep doing the same thing, even after it kept failing over and over.
As for Schelerth, I think he knows something about OL play so I'll take his word over anyone here.

Devey wasn't part of the team for training camp. Camp ended on the august 13th, we traded for Devey on the 18th. He was with us for 2 weeks before being named starter. If we were still under heavy rotation during that 2 week period I don't know how many reps he would have actually received, but I have a hard time believing he blew people away.

Well, if Devey came in and was practically given the RG job, then that is not any kind of endorsement for Brandon Thomas or anyone else at the G spot. What about Marcus Martin? He has been awful at C as well. Was he really better than Joe Looney? Kilgore coming back will help at C. But the right side of the OL remains atrocious. Someone already mentioned this, but should the Niners re-sign Boone after the season? If not, they will need to go after an interior lineman in free agency and/or the draft very early. I would rather them focus in the draft on QB and/or pass rusher early on.

Considering how oblivious our coaches seem to be toward the obvious improvement offered by Tiller, I'm not sure I agree with that conclusion.

I am all for playing Tiller in place of Devey and not rotating them. Coaches obviously missed something in Tiller's game in the preseason I dont know. While we are at it, get worthless Pears out of there and might as well play Trent Brown. Time to see what the youngsters can do...Pears was a horrible free agent signing, although Baalke didnt have a lot of options there since Anthony Davis chose to retire in June, well after the free agency and draft.

The problem is I don't think any of the players blew people away. I don't think any of the players stood out. I am not there watching practice so I can only go on what was reported by people covering the team. Silberman, Thomas, Martin, Brown all struggled. I am not defending Devey, he's awful. Has to be on the GM for not brining in the right people.
