CARDS AT 49ERS POST GAME THREAD

Post#1 » by 49er4life1979 » Mon Nov 30, 2015 1:13 am

Chalk this one up to losing to the refs, LOL pathetic...So have at it! I know it's only been 3 games, but Gabbert is looking like the real deal to me with yet another very good game. 25/36 318 yards, 1TD 1INT....And we are seeing more Vance McDonald, playing like we drafted him to play. I guess it took a change at QB to facilitate that. Great effort by the defense. Tough loss! :(

I watched what Boone said, it was hilarious. Yet truthful.

I haven't seen the second half yet, but outside of the muffed punt and interception in the first half, look like it was going pretty well. It's time for consolation prize, we get a better draft pick, played pretty good defense against a hot team, and heard that Gabbert was playing well.

The goal this year is not to win, the goal is to improve everywhere you can and get a better draft pick. I don't want to suck to get a better draft pick. If we can feel like we played well enough to win and improve and still improve the draft pick, that's the best.

The trouble with improving everywhere is that it will just enable Jed and Trent to justify keeping Tomsula for another year, and will not put Baalke on the hot seat either. They can all spend the offseason trumpeting the "improvement" and we'll be stuck with a coaching staff that sucks, a GM who would probably rather keep Gabbert on the cheap rather than draft a top QB, and will undoubtedly continue to comb the NCAA injury wire for his next 2nd round redshirt pick.

What scares me is he'll perform just well enough that the three stooges will believe he's good enough to be the starter going forward. It's the same guys that believed Jim Tomsula was a legitimate head coach so it's a real fear. Also Baalke wants great defense, great running game, decent QB model.

That's not to knock Gabbert as he's clearly a better player than he was in his Jaguar days but I just see him as a better version of Shaun Hill in that he's a guy you want as a backup to be able to spot a few starts if need be but not a guy you build a franchise around.

That is a scary thought. This team needs to draft a QB regardless. Can Baalke find the right one is a bigger issue

Won't the masses see the W/L record and freak out while the more knowledgeable base who sees the improvement be small in number? Or are the knowledgeable ones more influential despite their numbers being low? I'm scared of mass decisions because they are often knee jerk, but it we want ouster, that could help... if they aren't apathetic.

Well, I am very encouraged by Gabbert in the 3 games thus far. In particular, he has looked very good against Seattle, IN Seattle, a very tough place to play and a very good defense. And Arizona is a 9-2 team with a very good D as well. Certainly if he continues playing this well, you have to consider him in the mix to start next year. Remember he was a top 10 pick who landed in a horrible situation in Jacksonville. Sometimes it's better to sit for a couple years and hold a clipboard. See Aaron Rodgers.

Drafting a QB early and starting him will also be going "on the cheap" for the first 4 seasons. I say if Gabbert continues to play well the rest of the way, start him next season.

The only trouble I have with the staff right now is the playcalling on offense and the personnel decisions on who to start. Purcell and Armstead had to wait for injuries before they played. Celek had to wait for Vernon to be traded. Tiller who hasn't been a world beater, has been a sizable upgrade over Devey. Even Blaine Gabbert coming in was quite the difference maker! It just makes me wonder if we're really trying to tank the season... If that's the plan behind closed doors—impossible to know—then I really don't see any reason to get frustrated. KNOWLEDGEABLE fans can see there's hope on this team. What's missing most is a right tackle, center, and an inside linebacker; TWO of the positions we lost during the offseason due to unexpected retirements.

no, the current staff, IMO, are clueless or stubborn bores with no credibility for doubt.

If we weren't jobbed by the refs and actually pulled out the Giants game we would be right in the thick of things. It sucks that we are this bad when the whole NFC is inconsistent at the moment.

The Reffing is atrocious and has been for a while now. Ugh

You're getting the 49ers confused with PSU.

Don't forget pass rusher. Brooks is getting old and will have a big salary. Lemonier is all but a bust, and Eli Harold is unrpoven. I would rank pass rusher as priority No. 1
