Profootballtalk.com passes along an "intriguing rumor" from the Combine that ex-49ers DE Justin Smith wants to come out of retirement, but does not want to play for San Francisco.The situation in San Francisco has become extremely toxic under tyrannical GM Trent Baalke. Smith wants no part of it, per the rumor, but is interested in playing football again. As PFT's Mike Florio notes, the 49ers still control Smith's rights on the reserve/retired list. More proof it was Baalke, not Harbaugh, who crashed the most successful run the team has had since
Steve Young.

It would absolutely break my heart to see him in another uniform, but if I was the Niners' decision maker I would let Cowboy & his agent gauge other teams' interest.

I would lean on the rumor being false and right up there with Patrick Willis coming back.
Players are mainly concerned about the coaching staff not particularly about front office drama and if he wanted to come back and not for the 9ers I could see the reason being to play for a contender not because Baalke is the GM.
