Good test for the OL against the Panthers front 7. Though they got run on by Denver.

I wouldn't be surprised if he came close. He will be Blaine's safety pass. If he can keep getting open Blaine will lean on him.

First shut out since week 4 in 2012 vs. Jets where they won 34-0 after a 0-0 tie after the first quarter.

49ers had a billion rushing yards in that game (ok, actually 247) with Alex Smith at QB.

Kaepernick actually had 5 rushes for 50 yards and a rush TD in that game, though. He also threw 1 pass (not completed).

Niners win. Some improvement from last year for the most part the offense looked at least coached and competent not great or even really good but competent. Disciplined as far as penalties. Defense looked good they have the potential to gel into a very solid and respectable unit. A lot of youth there and a shutout should help build their confidence. I like what I saw in this game. There was improvement from last year and they won a game they should have. Its only the Rams so I am not reading any more into that and still think they are a 5-7 win team. But it was an improvement from last year and a buidling block for the team.

Did Case even test our CBs with long throws? I don't remember anything going further than 20 yards.

Go Vance! Hoping to see more of that RIGHT after he signs a 5-year contract extension. :D

Not really one deep pass to Austin Ward was there and Austin let it go through his hands.. It is not really a good gauge for this team. The Next two weeks against the Panthers and Seahawks will give us a much better idea of who the Niners are. I expect the Niners to be 1-2 going into week 4. What I am hoping to see is the Niners to keep improving specificaly to See Gabbert get more confident and less tentative. See them Get Torrey Smith more involved in the offense with some deep shots to open up more room for Hyde. See if the Offensive line can continue to hold up and protect. Defensively be good to see if they can keep generating pressure and get that one to two steps closer and get a few more sacks. Overall tonight was an encouraging start and shows that the Niners could be competitive this year and build for next year when they can add another receiver and a few other pieces and be at least in the hunt for a playoff spot. This year if they can put together 5-7 wins and be a tough out I will count it a success and be happy.

If we could figure out a way to make Gabbert take more risks we could have a decent offense. I don't need him to be a gunslinger, just brave enough to occasionally move the ball with purpose. A lot of passes feel like he's hitting the ejection seat ASAP. I don't get how he has so many short 3rd down passes, it seems like it would be a fixable problem.

Panthers will be a real test for the defense. Especially trying to stop Cam on short yardage situations.

Probably a 10 AM PST game.

It's the second year in a row that the NFL has screwed them over like that.

I know the scheduling is a fine art but it should never be the case where you schedule a team that played a really late Monday Night game to the opposite end of the country to play a 10am PST game against a team that played on Thursday night.

They did last year with the Steelers and they did the same exact thing this year with the Panthers.

One thing I was extremely impressed by was just having two penalties the entire game with one of them just being Tiller thinking he could get the Rams with encroachment and the other Chip admitting it was on him for putting the players in the wrong formation.

Another thing I thought was impressive was the pass protection. Gabbert had time and pretty clean pockets especially considering the Rams have a good defensive line.

Defensively it was hard to get a good feel for them considering how inept the Rams offense was but part of that ineptness was due to the defense. I loved seeing them swarm the ball and I loved the aggressiveness of the play calling with different players coming in from different locations.

Offensively I came away with major concerns.

Gabbert just still looks like someone who I would want to be backup and not be the starter and you could see why Chip gave every chance for someone else to pull ahead. Missed some really easy throws, had some throws that didn't give a chance for YAC, and had a couple of throws in that could've been INTs. But he did have some really great that just makes you think if he could just do that on a more consistent basis he could actually be a good QB. In his partial defense the skill positions aren't great so it's not like he gets a ton of help from his receivers.

But having 8 yards in a quarter is not going to cut it and if the Rams weren't so terrible on offense it could've lead to some serious trouble.

Overall though it's still a pretty positive win with more good things to take from it than bad things. Week 3 Seattle will be a bigger test to see where they are really at as I'm not going to hold whatever happens against Carolina too much against them considering how the deck is stacked against them in that one.

LA DL is one of the best... so it's pretty damn impressive. Now we go to Carolina and face another, IMO, strong DL. That's going to be a game!

Probably Brock with safety help. If/when they move him inside it will be Ward. Rashard Robinson looked very impressive last night according to PFF. He allowed no catches....I am still pissed that Joshua Garnett was not even on the active game day roster, a fricken first round pick! Marcus Martin was the one who replaced Tiller when he briefly went out. Hopefully Garnett just needs brushing up on the scheme and nothing else.

Garnett is a rookie and on top of that he was late due to finishing school late. He is playing catch up. I am not worried yet,

I like the word pathetic better :banghead:

To try put a more positive spin on it the fact he was inactive means the offensive line is even better than expected.

Also his inactive status was likely more to do with his lack of versatility rather than talent. Martin can backup both C and G spots and Davis can backup both T spots and fill in as an emergency G if needed.

But being inactive does give some level of concern as you're counting on the guy to be a starter in the near future and not just a backup.
