STALEY ON THE TRADE BLOCK
According to multiple reports, Joe Staley is on the trade block with the Niners seeking a 1st round pick for him. Great, we can get another DB!

Re: STALEY ON THE TRADE BLOCK
can't have too many DBs... right Trent?

Joe deserves to be on a contender and hopefully a real one comes calling but kind of hard at LT. You'd figure most contending teams have legit LTs already.
And then there's the part of me that wishes he retires as a niner.

Yea, maybe Baalke figures if he drafts twenty corners he might eventually find one that turns into a pro bowler.

Re: STALEY ON THE TRADE BLOCK
If they insist on a 1st it means they really don't want to trade them but if they get someone to overpay for him they'll pull the trigger.
It's basically the first acknowledgment that the team knows that it's in rebuilding mode and won't be competitive anytime soon.
What I'll be curious with is if they use Staley as a piece to try to get Jimmy G from the Pats. No way they'll part with a 1st that'll likely be in the top 5 but maybe a Staley and 2 2nds could get it done. Not that I'm advocating that move but with Baalke feeling the heat it wouldn't shock me to go after Jimmy G to help build his case to stay GM.

I don't think the 49ers will get a 1st for Staley, but if they did I don't trust Baalke to make the right pick.

Re: STALEY ON THE TRADE BLOCK
Isn't Cleveland shopping Thomas for a 2nd? That seems more realistic, and even then...

Re: STALEY ON THE TRADE BLOCK
PFT:
Per multiple sources, 49ers and Eagles have been discussing a trade for WR Torrey Smith. Deal is not currently imminent.
Some have speculated Agholor could be included in a deal because Chip loved the kid.
The only way an Eagles trade would have excited me is if Eric Rowe were still an Eagle.

Even if they give us the Vikings' pick?

He actually hasnt done a bad job drafting DBs. Jimmie Ward has Pro Bowl potential, as does Rashard Robinson. Reaser and Johnson could start as well for some teams. Will Redmond will play soon too. The corners are the least of my worries. What pisses me off is him devaluing skill positions and stubbornly continuing to draft ACL "value" players. We have the same weaknesses this year that we had last year.

Fair enough. Joe Thomas and a 4th rounder for a Broncos 2nd rounder was reportedly close last year if you believed a select group of reporters.

If Baalke is not going to be fired, do not acquire any more draft picks! He'll just f*** it up.

no no, he can still acquire the picks...
the actual usage of said picks or any decision makings into picks should be taken away from him at all costs.

Re: STALEY ON THE TRADE BLOCK
I said in the must keep thread that I would offer to pay all of Staley's contract if he could fetch a 2nd, obviously gettign a 1st or not having to pay the $ would be even better.
As for the Joe Thomas vs Joe Staley thing: Thomas is a better player, however Staley is not far off, is only a couple months older and has a more attractive contract. It could be a classic case of beauty is in the eye of the beholder, where some teams would prefer one guy and others prefer the other guy. If Frisco is willing to include cash, Staley might be the more attractive commodity.
Colts and Seattle immediately come to mind as teams that would be interested in Staley or Thomas. Would be painful to see Staley in a hawks uniform though.

Re: STALEY ON THE TRADE BLOCK
I rather Joe go to a contender.... thats why Indy was off my radar.... but they're still in the race for the division.... so i guess.
They traded a first for Trent, we should get the same for a real All Pro(or was he?) Pro Bowl LT.
