Offseason question

What do you guys think we should do.
1. Fire Baalke and keep Kelly?
2. Fire both?
3. Keep Baalke and fire Kelly?
4. Keep both?
And if we fire Baalke who would be your first realistic choice for the new GM?

4.
Let Baalke get a chance to select the QB he wants under center. Doesn't look like we're missing out on anything special from the 2016 draft thus far—with the exception of Dak Prescott who has a SB caliber offense built around him. We definitely need him to hit on one of these WRs in the draft. Over the last three years the team has been plagued by a seemingly inordinate amount of injuries + retirements. We can't just pretend like we can lose pro bowlers and think this team is going to be a playoff contender.

Replace Trent with Gamble,
give kelly another year to show future coaches we aren't as volatile as firing Harbaugh made us look,
find a new defensive coordinator who isn't a trashcan.

If we're going by what will realistically happen it will be #1 or #4.
What I feel we should do is #1 and if you keep Kelly you pretty much have no choice but to put Gamble as GM since that's who Chip would want which means they would be in sync and have the highest chance of successfully working together.
Firing two head coaches back to back after one year is a horrible look for a franchise that already has image problems and it would make getting anyone decent to take the job that much more of a longshot.
I just think the team needs to give Chip another 2 seasons and try not to look incompetent in those two years if they want to restore some credibility to give themselves better options if they do need to hire another coach.
If Chip doesn't work out York needs to wipe the board clean, break out the checkbook, and offer prospective coaches the option of bringing in their choice personnel guy with them. No matter how down and out a team is, nobody is not going to listen if you offer big money and a chance to put their guy picking players.

Fire Balke
Keep Kelly.
Baalke's been at this since 2010. Kelly's had 1 season with the crappiest set of QBs this side of Steve Stenstrom & Tim Rattay.
Don't be like the Sacramento Kings & think firing the coach every year is the answer.

Baalke has done NOTHING to show that he deserves another draft.
Kelly I don't know but I assume Jed isn't going to eat that contract after just one year.

So who coached it better? Jim Tomsula or Chip?

Fire both. Baalke ain't bringing in the players.
Kelly can't have a defense. His system is fundamentally flawed.

Kelly needs to go.... or demote him to OC.... its clear that he does not hold the NFL players to the NFL level....
Its bright as day...
he had the rookie year success in philly.
maintain part of the momentum with the college like players he had
everything fell apart, the team was no longer viable for a nfl game....

Will the Yorks eat another big contract though?
They're insulated from poor attendance somewhat because of the TV money, SBL and season ticket sales.
But they're missing out on more parking and concessions money. Merchandise sales have to be down too.
Kawakami theorized that they made like $150 million last year or something like that. If it's anywhere near that figure, then winning and tons of empty seats at Levis do not matter at all.
Then again, eating a $30 million head coaching contract would not matter that much either. Guess it's a question of whether they have any civic pride or care about the franchise history.
Evidence seems to be that they have FU money and are saying FU to the fans.

Philly is chipping in some on that contract too.

I like Kelly, but you do have a point about the defense. I much prefer Harbaugh's slow, methodical offense that stays on the field more.
More total plays = more chances at injury for both sides. I hope Kelly sees this and scraps the hurry-up offense.

But the hurry-up offense really hasn't been all that hurry-up so far so I don't think that's the issue. They're dead last in TOP because the offense blows not because of a hurry-up offense.
This year it's 26:16 TOP vs last year where it was 26:23 TOP
In terms of plays per game they rank 20th at 63 plays vs 2015 60.9 plays
Eagles in 2015 had a TOP of 25:51 (32nd) and plays per game was at 68.9 (2nd)

I'd be very surprised if they got rid of Kelly so fast. Right now it's like trying to win the Indy 500 on a tricycle with two flat tires.

A lot of people wanted to fired Jim Tomsula because they didn't like his pressers and he was easy to bag on for his likeness to "Carl" from Aqua Teen Hunger Force. A lot of people thought that a person calling and designing the plays would breathe life into our offense. Our OL is tremendously better than the Devey & Pears combination Tomsula had to work around last year. My opinion was Tomsula's only weakness was not benching those two from the start. To fire Tomsula would have had to have meant getting Rex Ryan or Hue Jackson. Our offense and defense have regressed—not looking at stats, but more of a feel for where we should be with the talent on the field. Kind of wish we kept Jim Tom

I think Jed has to hire a vp of football operations, hire a new gm, and leave the decision on Kelly up to the new people.

You are right to say that we are not playing as fast as kelly is known for, but we are still the fastest in the NFL. The 3 years we had with Harbaugh were among the bottom 3 slowest. A big problem most of the season was Blaine Gabberts phobia of first down markers. We are 23rd in 3rd down conversions. No play speed can fix a failure to convert 3rd downs.
I can't blame the bad defense entirely on Chip's speed though, that would make sense if they started strong and got exposed late, but the defense has struggled before they have a chance to get tired. Our run D is dead last, O'Niel's run D was 31st in Cleveland, they've improved to 19th in one year without him. Being pounded by a run game wears defenses down as much as kelly's fast pace offense.

I'd be surprised if Bellore isn't the worst starting ILB in the league. Last year we saw Tartt becoming one of those hybrid safety/linebackers, why hasn't he been on the field in place of Bellore?
