Darn it! I would have preferred if we had waited after the draft to better assess where we are in terms of depth at the RB position. If there is a scenario that would or could present us with the possibility of drafting someone like Cook / McCaffrey (2nd round); or Mixon (3rd round) then that is far better than adding a middling free agent such as Hightower.

I'm aware that this move doesn't totally eliminate us from drafting a McCaffrey in the late first / early second per se. However having a very serviceable back on our roster now (Hightower) gives ShanaLynch a reason to make excuses to pass up on a elite backs: Cook / Mixon in order to address another position (Njoku? Webb? Bolles? Etc.) I just believe that we need to focus on BPA throughout...! We have needs on every position throughout our roster.

If they didn't give both those guys basically minimum deals, Lynch needs to have his head examined. It's a great draft for RBs, and these types of players can be had off the street during the season. I'm betting that neither got much in the way of guaranteed money, and we have ample cap space, so it shouldn't prevent anything during the draft.

I have a feeling they will position themselves to take McCaffrey

As of April, I want:

John Hankins

1: Mitch T.
2. Corey Davis
2A: Charles Harris after trade up
Comp' pick: Pat Elflein

8-)

Extend Aaron Lynch's contract (buy low). He can compete w/ Charles Harris for the LEO position.

Give Eli Harrold another couple of years to prove something. Have him cut weight & back up the SAM spot.

Give Eric Reid a 3-year deal. Not too long, not too short. Again: buy low. If he gives up, at least it's not a huge deal. But I think he'll do better in the cover 3 because his initial burst & reaction to the QB is his best quality. Rangy.

Think Cory will drop to the 2nd?

There's been some talk that it's possible if he can't test. Lower level of competition, no athletic numbers, and Ross' move up...it could happen. Not worth much, but he doesn't go in the first in Rob Rang's most recent mock, for instance.

No mention the last couple of days on the Lions signing of Nick Bellore? I'm raising multiple glasses to that development.

I think it's a long shot, but I'd love to have him. Corey would be the closest thing the Niners have had to TO since TO (including the occasional drop). Thought he was the best WR in CFB since the offseason.

No doubt it's a long shot. We'll see. He may fall a bit, but I'd be pretty surprised if he fell out of the first entirely.

49ers add another linebacker to the mix: Jayson DiManche

http://www.sacbee.com/sports/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/article143325739.html

He was given the 2nd highest signing bonus by an UDFA in 2013. Was a huge project coming out. Ton of raw/physical ability. Worked out extremely well.
