Good news that he's back fully healthy.

He's still a really good LB even though he'll never reach that peak he was at before his knee injury and if Foster stays healthy and out of trouble it should be a really good pairing.

Carlos Hyde - RB - 49ers

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat says Carlos Hyde has looked like "the slowest and most indecisive running back on the team" at 49ers OTAs.

Hyde is learning new coach Kyle Shanahan's outside-zone system after excelling in Chip Kelly's shotgun-based zone-read scheme last year. Beat writer Grant Cohn says Hyde "doesn't seem to have the vision to succeed" in Shanahan's offense, a fit GM John Lynch openly questioned before the draft. Cohn believes the 49ers should trade Hyde "to a team that runs the zone read." We still expect Hyde to open the season as the Niners' clear-cut starter.

Emphasis on that it came from Grant Cohn. Now if others have it, ok. I'm not saying it can't prove to be legit as others have brought up possible issues for him in the new system. I'm just saying that there needs to be an emphasis that it's a Grant Cohn piece in this instance.

49ers to work out Elvis Dumervil

http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-0662039959187756222-4

Now that's somewhere between interesting and very interesting. Would've been doing back flips over this years ago if they could've pulled it off with that group. He'll be 34 after the end of this season.

Prior to last year, he had only missed 6 games in 10 seasons.

Wouldn't mind adding him to add vet experience and to bring in him for that pass rush specialist role where you rotate him in and limit his snaps.

Dwight Freeney is 37 and still has something in the tank and I could see Dumervil being the same.

Navorro Bowman - LB - 49ers

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat expects the 49ers to cut ILB Navorro Bowman.

Bowman (Achilles) is trying to return from his second major injury in the last three years. He’s been full-go at OTAs, but has reportedly looked slow in coverage and "couldn’t even keep up" with blocking TE Garrett Celek. The 49ers denied shopping Bowman this offseason, but drafted his replacement in Reuben Foster. Signed through 2022, releasing Bowman would leave $10.9 million in dead money.

It's coming from Grant Cohn who at times I appreciate a more cynical view of things but with Grant once he latches on to a point of view he'll hammer home anything negative that supports that point of view even if it's something that's not a huge deal.

2013 Bowman isn't walking through that door anytime soon but 2013 was arguably the best ILB in the league and just because he can't play at that level anymore doesn't mean he still isn't an effective player.

They'll keep him not just because of his play on the field but because he's the leader and one of the seasoned vets on a young defense and because he'll be a good mentor for Foster who needs someone like that to keep him focused and out of trouble.

They wouldn't cut Bowman if only for his leadership. He is THE leader of the defense, and there isn't really a close second (Reid would be #2, I guess?). And although ILB/WLB is one of our stronger positions on defense, we're still only really three-deep there, anyway. If we pull him on passing plays, he's still worth keeping.

Totally agree that once Cohn gets something into his head, he only looks for things that support his view. Sometimes he's right, but oftentimes he's wrong.

Rashard Robinson - DB - 49ers

Sophomore CB Rashard Robinson appears to be locked in as the 49ers' starting right cornerback.

Robinson was the 49ers' lowest-graded cornerback by Pro Football Focus last season, but the new coaching staff likes his size (6'2/171) and intangibles. "He’s a dog. I like him," said first-year DC Robert Saleh. "He’s made of the right stuff, his attitude, his mindset is unique for a corner." The 49ers' secondary will be one to attack in daily fantasy throughout the 2017 season.
