Leighton Vander Esch - LB - Broncos

Pro Football Focus lists Boise State LB Leighton Vander Esch as the linebacker who had the highest run-stopping percentage in the 2017 season.

Vander Esch made a stop on approximately 15.9 percent of his chances, which is above TCU's linebacker Travin Howard and Auburn's Trey Williams. "Against the run, Vander Esch has the eyes to find the ball and has a knack for sliding past blockers to make a run stop," PFF's Jordan Plocher writes. " He uses his long stride to quickly cover ground on outside runs and is also a productive pass-rusher when asked, generating four sacks, two QB hits, 12 hurries and one batted pass on his 98 pass-rushing snaps." Vander Esch is considered one of the more intriguing athletes in the class, and has a strong chance of going before the end of the second round.

Bingo_AlphaMan wrote:Frank Ragnow - G - Razorbacks

Pro Football Focus's Analysis Team rates Arkansas C Frank Ragnow was one of the most versatile offensive weapons in the class.

Ragnow missed significant time after going down with an ankle injury, but prior to that was rated one of the best centers in the country; finishing with a run grade that ranked only below Notre Dame's Quenton Nelson. "Ragnow is nearly 6-foot-5 and weighs 307 pounds and he has 33 2/8-inch arms so he doesn’t have any physical limitations that would force him into just one offensive line position," they write. "Ragnow mostly played center the last two seasons but has played 15 career games at right guard as well and performed admirably." He currently projects as a Day 2 selection.

Love him as a player, and he has one of the best football names ever. Frank Ragnow: sounds like a cop from a 70's action movie. 8-)

Denzel Ward - DB - Buckeyes

Pro Football Focus has Ohio State CB Denzel Ward with the fifth highest playmaking grade from draft-eligible cornerbacks in 2018.

The grade measures the ability to make interceptions and passes defended divided by the times the cornerback is targeted. In this case, Ward either intercepted or broke up a pass 24.6 percent of the time, or just about one of every four attempts. That's an impressive total, especially considering teams often wouldn't target the corner at all. Ward is projected to be one of the first cornerbacks to come off the board, possibly in the top ten.

Rashaad Penny - RB - Aztecs

Rotoworld's Thor Nystrom questions whether San Diego State RB Rashaad Penny can be a three-down back in the NFL.

While Nystrom loves the 5-foot-11, 220-pound Penny's ability once he hits the open field, as well as his upside in the return game, he sees serious drawbacks in the San Diego State star's game which could potentially limit him at the next level. Writes Nystrom, "I don’t see him as a fit for teams that like to air it out. Penny wasn’t used much as a receiver at SDSU, and he’s a horrific pass blocker." Adding context to these comments, Penny underwhelmed at the Senior Bowl last month. His game is not without its appeal, but it's a very imperfect game.

Nick Chubb - RB - Bulldogs

Rotoworld's Thor Nystrom believes that Georgia RB Nick Chubb's lack of a complete game hurts his pro upside.

Nystrom is plenty keen on Chubb's strength and physicality, never a question with the 5-foot-10, 228-pounder. Beyond that plus-attribute, though, the analyst questions Chubb's durability, speed and running style, noting that the back looks "a little stiff when asked to go outside of his comfort zone." An AFC scouting director who recently spoke with NFL.com would probably give this breakdown his stamp of approval, as that evaluator believes that Chubb simply has not been the same player since suffering a severe knee injury against Tennessee midway through the 2015 season.

Kerryon Johnson - RB - Tigers

Rotoworld's Thor Nystrom referred to Auburn RB Kerryon Johnson as a "'souped-up,' rich man's version of Wayne Gallman."

"What jumped out when watching Johnson at Auburn was his Zen master-level patience. When he gets the ball, he doesn’t blindly charge ahead," Nystrom writes, adding that the 6-foot, 195-pound Johnson is "very quick" and "trusts his eyes." The analyst ranks the Auburn standout as the No. 5 running back in this draft class. He figures to be off the board by the end of Round 2 come festivities in Dallas this spring.

He should've left earlier. Really liked what I saw from him two seasons ago.

Wasn't he just coming off his ACL tear his first year of being eligible? Maybe that's why he went back.

Marcell Ateman - WR - Cowboys

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline reports that the 49ers are a team that is high on Oklahoma State WR Marcell Ateman.

The 49ers looked much improved under Jimmy Garoppolo, but they still have needs at wide receiver. Ateman isn't as "famous" as his teammate James Washington, but some view him as the better pro prospect. "Ateman grades as a third-round selection on our board but could rise into the draft’s initial 45 picks with good testing results in Indianapolis," Pauline writes. "What exactly does "good" mean? We’re talking a 40-yard dash under 4.45 -- he was estimated with a 4.6 40 by scouts entering the season -- and a vertical jump over 40 inches. I’m told he can hit 42 inches." If he does hit those marks, it'd be an upset if Ateman is still on the board before the end of the second round.

Rashaan Evans - LB - Crimson Tide

Pro Football Focus ranks Alabama LB Rashaan Evans as the most productive pass-rusher in the draft class.

Evans was able to achieve success -- a sack, a pressure, a hurry, what have you -- on 21.9 percent of his pass rushes, easily the best of any linebacker in the class who attempted a rush at least 55 times. The 6-foot-3, 234-pound linebacker battled injuries all year, but when healthy, he showed the talent of a legitimate outside linebacker talent. How he performs in his pro day will go a long way towards determining where he'll go in the draft -- his fluctuation is among the highest of any prospect on either side of the ball.

Antonio Callaway - WR - Gators

NFL media analyst Daniel Jeremiah tweeted that in studying Florida WR Antonio Callaway, he reminded him of former Gator Percy Harvin.

Callaway oozed talent in his time at Florida, but his off-the-field issues are rampant, as he's been cited for marijuana possession on multiple occassions and also was kicked off the team due to his role in a credit card fraud case. Still, his ability as a receiver and punt-returner is readily apparent, even while playing with some of the worst quarterbacks in the conference. Someone might take a chance on him, but you have to wonder if the risk is worth the reward.

Bingo_AlphaMan wrote:Quenton Nelson - G - Fighting Irish

NFL.com Draft analyst Chad Reuter ranks Notre Dame G Quenton Nelson as the safest prospect in the NFL Draft class.

Nelson (6'5/325) ranks near the top of many draft boards being released, and a select few have him at the top of the class. It's no surprise given his ability as a run and pass blocker that he is considered close to a sure thing. "Nelson is as close to the top of the heap as any guard has been since Hall of Famer John Hannah destroyed New England's opponents for 13 seasons," Reuter writes. "Whichever team selects Nelson in the top 10 will watch him become a perennial Pro Bowler as a nasty and athletic leader on the line."

He's supposed to work out well. How well? We'll see. For his size he has good movement skills and translates well to some of the drills but I don't know if we'll see elite stuff ACROSS THE BOARD when you put him up against guys of all sizes.

He'll need a bold OC, a tough as nails WR coach........and time. He hasn't been asked to run or been coached up running an array of routes and is an athlete playing WR right now more than anything. He's not very developed in any one part of the game outside of what he gets out of his athletic ability. He's just ultra, ultra talented guy that leans on his athleticism for a lot of what he does.

I'm going to use my term again. He definitely fits into the size monster target group. I'd like to work with him as a Niner option because of that. He's also really good when the ball is in the air or playing along the sidelines. But he's a ways off and the questions will be, How much will you be able to work with him on becoming a well-rounded football player? How fast might it take for him to get it? And what are you going to ask him to do at each stage of the process?

Also, we'll see if anybody red flags his foot injury that was surgically repaired.

Before the Foster incidents I wouldn’t have agreed with you. But now... things have changed. Can’t risk it on guys like Key, Callaway, Hughes, etc. It seems like we have the Aldon Smith curse when giving guys second chances.

Christian Kirk - WR - Aggies

FanRag Sports writer Peter Bukowski projects the Seahawks to select Texas A&M Christian Kirk with the 18th pick in his seven-round mock draft for Seattle.

This would be interesting. The Seahawks have Doug Baldwin as a legit top-option, but Paul Richardson is a free agent, and so is Jimmy Graham. The Seahawks obviously need pass-catchers, but they also have huge needs on the offensive line, and potentially running back. They also don't have a pick in the second or third round. "The Seahawks don’t seem to mind having a shorter group of receivers and at 5-foot-11, Kirk is hardly "small," particularly at a rocked-up 200 pounds," Bukowski writes. "If the Legion of Boom’s time is coming to a close, perhaps prioritizing offensive skill talent to build a team around Russell Wilson will be the move."
