With the lack of options in this draft, the unlikelihood of Nelson being there at 9 (Barkley maybe?) and Foster in trouble, the prospect of trading down to the late 1st / early 2nd for Rashaan Evans is starting to grow on me.

From the FA thread:

NinerSickness wrote:Niners should be looking at Simmie Cobbs Jr & Equanimeous St. Brown in the draft IMO. Don't see them going in the first 2 rounds; maybe 3rd or 4th?

Equanimeous St. Brown would probably get more attention if his QB didn't suck out loud this year.

Bingo_AlphaMan wrote:I like both of those guys, but I like Auden Tate as a better option for us.

Tate has great ball skills, but I worry about his ability to get open in the NFL. I'd rather have EQ. Same ball skills but better size & athleticism IMO.

Look at the top of the screen. Tate has like a 10-yard running start, and he can't get separation from a college CB who's just standing still.

Granted, I think WR is the hardest position in CFB to evaluate, so take it for what it's worth.

Kirk Cousins - QB - Redskins

The New York Post's Brian Costello was told the Jets could offer Kirk Cousins $60 million in the first year of his contract.

New York is reportedly "willing to pay whatever it takes" to land Cousins, so this does not come as a surprise. It also makes some sense for the Jets, who have the cap space to both front-load the contract and make moves to improve the rest of the roster. The Broncos, Vikings, and Cardinals are also teams to watch in the Cousins sweepstakes.

Adding to the WR discussion:

Look at this route from EQ. I think he's a diamond in the rough. Totally fools the DB, but it's underthrown (crappy QB). Better QB = first-round pick IMO. Had 961 yards & 9 TDs w/ Kizer. No stats for this play:

Image

Next play: beats his guy on the outside badly: HORRENDOUSLY underthrown / late ball makes him stop mid-route. Even a bad pass would've been caught based on position & size, but it wasn't even catchable. No stats for that play.

Best no-QB value in the draft based on where most people are projecting them right now IMO:

Q. Nelson OL Notre Dame (best non-QB in the whole draft)
Wynn OL Georgia (late 1st / early 2nd???) <--- Must draft. Make him the starting C. F' Kilgore; he sucks.
Equanimeous St. Brown WR, Notre Dame (3rd?)
Derrius Guice RB Miami (Late 1st???)
Braden Smith OL Auburn (2nd?)
Jeff Holland DE / OLB Auburn (Late 3rd / 4th?)
Rashaan Evans LB 'Bama (Late 1st???)
Frank Ragnow C Arkansas (3rd?)
Calvin Ridley WR 'Bama (Late 1st???)
Harold Landry DE Boston College (2nd?)

...BTW, I have no friggn' clue where Dallas Goedert is supposed to go. I've seen him rated as a top-15 guy and a late-round guy. I love him as a prospect, but I have no idea where he's going to go in the draft. Anything past the 20s is a steal for Pozz's boy IMO.

More on EQ: Look at this Kaepernick-eque throw. Receiving yards have far more to to w/ the QB than the WR. Better QB = first-round pick IMO.

Random note: the top 10 of the 2019 draft should be super strong, and the NIners need to somehow pick up an extra 2019 pick in round
1. Move back all the way to the 2nd if necessary; just get that pick (assuming Nelson is gone of course).

In order of what I'd do:

1. Nelson
2. Trade back to the 2nd & pick up an extra 1st (from a bad team) next year
3. Barkley

1 & 3 probably won't be possible IMO. IMO. It's gotta be the trade back. Move to the 30s & get Wynn from Georgia to start at C. Fill the rest of the starting lineup w/ FA.

Yep. I still think all the value is in late first/early second; where we have no picks, ugh.. Evans is indeed one of my targets in a trade down.

Buffalo's firsts for our first is my ideal scenario.

More on EQ. He's beginning to become my draft crush. 6'5 receivers are rarely this nimble (with some power to boot). Might even like him more than Calvin Ridley. Kizer throwing to him:

This is a very accurate comparison IMO. I didn’t see it until he made it come to light.

Marcell Ateman - WR - Cowboys

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein compared Oklahoma State WR Marcel Ateman to New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman.

"Ateman played in a vertical offense that took advantage of subpar secondaries in his conference and should fit into a West Coast offense as a pro," Zierlein writes. He refers to the 6-foot-4, 216-pounder as having "instant credibility" for potential red zone work in the pro ranks due to his palatable frame and size. Sharp testing results at the combine could propel him into the conversation for Round 2 this spring. The 49ers are one team that has been linked to the wideout in the early going.

Coleman is/was stiffer and didn't catch the ball NEARLY as well as Ateman does, especially on contested throws. Other than that.....not bad.

Dorance Armstrong Jr. - DL - Jayhawks

An NFC director of scouting said that Kansas edge rusher Dorance Armstrong Jr. "will help himself at the combine."

"Don't read too much into that sack total this year (Armstrong recorded two in 2017). They didn't really cut him loose this year," the scout said, adding that he remains a big fan of Armstrong as a prospect even despite his drop in production. The 6-foot-4, 241-pounder posted 10 sacks during his breakout 2016 season with the Jayhawks. In a rare cross-sport scouting observation, NFL Media's Lance Zierlein refers to him as possessing the "build and fluid athleticism of a shooting guard." The analyst compares Armstrong to former Browns edge rusher Kamerion Wimbley, who was drafted with the No. 13 overall pick in 2006. We don't expect the Kansas stud to rise quite that high, but he's a good bet to be off the board by the end of Day 2.

Vita Vea - DL - Huskies

ESPN's Mel Kiper believes Washington DT Vita Vea has "rare" quickness for a player of his size "and can play all three downs."

Kiper adds Vea is a "freakish" talent. This is obviously very high praise, and Kiper clearly believes Vea is an upfield disruptor and will help as a pass rusher. There are clear expectations for Vea's NFL Combine workout, but we aren't sold on Vea as an every down defensive tackle.

The production (or lack of) doesn’t scare me all that much. Even his medicals isn’t too much of a concern for me at this point, until our team doctors says otherwise (i.e., Foster last year). It’s the off the field stuff that scares the crap out of me. No one seems to be able to disclose what exactly the issue was!? Did he get suspended? Is he not committed / contemplating early retirement once he gets an NFL bonus!? What is it...? If he’s committed, no drugs/violence off the field issues, no early retirement plans, then I’d be more than willing to snatch him in the second. Until then... no thanks.

Arden Key - DL - Tigers

The MMQB's Albert Breer "really" thinks LSU edge rusher Arden Key drops out of the first round.

We've said the same, as right now there are far more questions around Key's game than answers, and that typically scares a number of teams. Key was great in 2016, but as soon as that season ended things became cloudy. Key had shoulder surgery and spent time away from the team. He then missed a few games while recovering and totally changed his playing weight.
