DeShone Kizer - QB - Browns

DeShone Kizer completed 8-of-13 passes for 74 yards in the Browns' second preseason game Monday night.

Most of his damage was done with his legs, as Kizer rushed five times for 35 yards and a touchdown that came from one yard out on a sneak. While he did lead two scoring drives in four possessions, Kizer wasn't all that impressive in this one. He held onto the ball too long at times, taking two sacks, and should have thrown a brutal interception on a third down in his own territory but the play was called back on a penalty. Brock Osweiler started and threw a pick on his two possessions of work. The quarterback spot remains a concern for Cleveland. Kizer probably isn't ready, but Osweiler is a known commodity who simply isn't good.

Mitchell Trubisky - QB - Bears

Mitchell Trubisky is getting some reps with the first-team offense this week.

Trubisky has worked exclusively with the backups to this point. Mike Glennon will start Chicago's third preseason game, with Trubisky expected to get some reps with the first team in the second half. It's a positive development for the No. 2 overall pick, but Trubisky remains unlikely to unseat Glennon before Week 1.

Donnel Pumphrey - RB - Eagles

Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski expects rookie Donnel Pumphrey to be inactive at the start of the season should he even make the 53-man roster.

Pumphrey was drawing all the praise early in training camp, but the pint-sized one-dimensional pass catcher has predictably struggled mightily in preseason games. A subpar athlete, relatively speaking, Pumphrey has caught seven passes for 32 yards and rushed seven times for two yards. Kempski wonders if the Eagles may even try to stash Pumphrey on I.R. as a rookie.

Matt Breida - RB - 49ers

The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows believes Matt Breida "has been better" than Joe Williams since the spring.

The 49ers appear to agree considering they used Breida as their No. 2 behind Carlos Hyde in the third preseason game. Unlikely to have an early-season role, Williams should be removed from redraft boards, but Breida is an interesting deep-league option.

Dede Westbrook - WR - Jaguars

Jaguars fourth-round WR Dede Westbrook is getting a second opinion on his undisclosed injury.

We do not know what is bothering Westbrook, but the fact he traveled to Philadelphia, home of core muscle injury expert Dr. William Meyers, suggests he is dealing with a groin issue. Dr. Meyers has treated several Jags in the past including fellow WR Allen Hurns. We should know more about Westbrook's outlook following the visit.

DeShone Kizer - QB - Browns

Browns coach Hue Jackson says he'll give DeShone Kizer a long leash as starting quarterback.

"I think this guy has the right stuff and if I'm worth my salt as a coach, I'll get it out of him," a fawning Jackson said Monday. Jackson said he has no hesitation about the decision, and that it wasn't made out of fear. Kizer showed plenty of flashes in the preseason, but didn't exactly look like a finished product. He's going to be a rollercoaster, both in fantasy and on the real-life gridiron.

Gareon Conley - DB - Raiders

Raiders first-round CB Gareon Conley (shin) is expected to be ready for Week 1.

Conley is expected to practice "soon." This is the final week of summer, so there's not much time left. A player who hasn't practiced since minicamp is going to be hard pressed to provide meaningful snaps against the Titans on Sept. 10.

Mitchell Trubisky - QB - Bears

Mitchell Trubisky will play in the Bears' preseason finale on Thursday.

Mike Glennon and Mark Sanchez won't. It means Trubisky, a player who has made 13 starts since high school and the Bears sold the farm to trade up for, couldn't beat out Sanchez for No. 2 duties. It could also mean coach John Fox is being a dunderheaded traditionalist, insisting on making Trubisky jump through hoops to "earn" his job. It's hard to believe the No. 2 overall pick won't make rookie starts, but it could be a while.

If they're smart, Trubisky won't sniff the field in 2017. Goff shouldn't have either last year.

Joe Williams - RB - 49ers

49ers placed fourth-round RB Joe Williams on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

A hot name this offseason, Williams was buried on the depth chart by the end of August, and it is likely the 49ers were looking for any option to stash the running back without burning a roster spot. With Williams and Tim Hightower gone, UDFA rookie Matt Breida is the back to own behind Carlos Hyde.

Completely forgot that I rated Colts' 5th round pick Anthony Walker Jr over Reuben Foster. Although Foster looks real deal/pro bowl bound, still wish to see this predraft rating all the way through.

Bucky Hodges - TE - Vikings

Vikings waived/injured TE Bucky Hodges.

The Vikings cut him to make room for Blake Bell, who was claimed off waivers from San Francisco. The sixth-round rookie needs time to adjust to tight end after mostly playing receiver at Virginia Tech. At 6'6/257, he certainly has the size to make that transition.

What happened to Bucky?

I too was ok with him as a pickup later in the draft.

George Kittle - TE - 49ers

George Kittle aggravated his hamstring in Wednesday's practice and was listed as limited.

Kittle missed a week of practice early in training camp with a hamstring issue. Midweek setbacks are never a good sign, so this is something to watch, not that Kittle was much of a fantasy option anyway. With the trade of Vance McDonald to the Steelers, Kittle is the 49ers' No. 1 tight end.

Kareem Hunt - RB - Chiefs

Kareem Hunt rushed 17 times for 148 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' Week 1 win over the Patriots, adding five receptions for 98 yards and two additional touchdowns.

Welcome to the NFL. Hunt lost a fumble on his first carry — something he literally never did at Toledo — but bounced back to absolutely shred the defending-champion Patriots. Hunt did it all tonight, getting upfield in a hurry and extending runs with power and broken tackles once he met the pile. He was also feathery smooth in the passing game, securing all five of his targets. His touchdowns went for three, 78 and four yards. He's the Chiefs' new three-down back, and will be an RB1 for Week 2 against the Eagles.
