Broncos CB Aqib Talib opens up about his future
“I definitely want to be back,” Talib said. “I’d love to retire as a Bronco.”
https://www.denverpost.com/2018/01/03/aqib-talib-broncos-future-quarterbacks-coaches/
There isn't a coach in the NFL that's going to completely corral the Talib shenanigans but the one coach on the 49ers who I think might have a shot to keep him from derailing from a personality standpoint is Saleh. Would that be enough to have the positives outweigh the negatives? I don't know. Talib is almost as gross as it gets when you start to line players up and the type of people they come off as.
I still don't think I could get behind it myself. Talib has just always been one of those personalities that I don't think is for me on any level - coaching, fandom, etc., - despite having an exciting skill set when he's actually right. How others who ride that good/bad fence tend to flock to him and the affect it might have on those guys, and has in the past, is one of my biggest concerns. Saleh would be better to deal with it than many, including myself if I had to put myself in his shoes, but I still think big time problems could arise around all that stuff.
Then you have to decide if you're good with the age. He'll be 32 next month. Personally I'm not as opposed to adding an aging corner to a young team like I am with an aging player at some other positions but that would be the other big question for someone.
The contract stuff shouldn't be too much of a shocker if you go by recent history. Obviously that's a consideration for everyone but I'm just saying I don't think his asking number and what he could get is going to be anything that's going to shock me. That's not saying I'm good with it either. I'm just saying I realize the number he's likely to come in at, or something close to it.
And I'll say it again. CB has routinely been one of my biggest 49ers issues since 1998. I swear there hasn't been an off-season that it hasn't concerned me. There's an element to it where you could let me pick my top 3 corners and a part of me would still probably worry about the position, too. I just can't help it with corners. I'm just saying this again to point out that even if I'm saying I'd pass on Talib, and I likely would even if he were interested, that I do realize the importance of getting a certain level of play out of the corner spot and how important it is to find a guy or guys that give you some value. I'm constantly thinking about that stuff.

Re: 2018 - Official Free Agency
He was one of my favorites when he came out. Not sure if he’d be worth pursuing at this stage of his career. It seems like his body is already starting to break down.
Ezekiel Ansah - DL - Lions
Lions DE Ezekiel Ansah was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 17.
Ansah recorded three sacks of Brett Hundley in the season finale. He finished the year with 12 sacks, tied for eighth in the league. However, Ansah's contract year was mostly a disappointment as he continued to battle injuries, while nine of his dozen sacks came in three games. Ansah will be an interesting case in free agency after recording just two sacks last season.

Leo rusher is definitely much needed and Ansah at the right price would be a very nice upgrade. That would shift Solomon over to Carradine's big end spot which is where is better suited...Besides Jimmy G's contract, Leo rusher I am sure is priority as it should be, followed by CB...Someone mentioned WR in an earlier post, but I just dont see a huge need there right now. With the emergence of Marquise Goodwin, the return of Garcon, plus Trent Taylor in the slot, and hopefully Bourne develops, I think we are fine there for now. On offense upgrade the interior OL and we should be good.

ChrisPozz I hear you on the CB part since 1998. However, we've had some solid ones. Remember in 2006 we had Walt Harris at 32 or 33 make the Pro Bowl? I never saw that coming either. Then in 2007 we grossly overpaid for Nate Clements, while he didnt live up to the contract, he was still solid. And then in 2011 Carlos Rogers signs a 1 year deal and made the Pro Bowl, and was a solid slot corner after that for two years, although he gave up a big one in the 2013 NFC Title Game. But hopefully this offseason we can go get a shutdown man. First time since we had Deion in 1994

Highest-paid guard in the league when he doesn't even really fit the ZBS? I know the team has money, but they can't just go throwing it at anyone.

Sammy Watkins - WR - Rams
Impending free agent Sammy Watkins said he is open to re-signing with the Rams.
"You see this team building something, with the coaching staff and the players," Watkins said. "It would be a pleasure to come back but, you know, it’s a business." The last part of that statement is important and why any "I would be happy to stay" comments in January should be taken with a grain of salt. Despite a down year statistically, Watkins did manage to stay healthy and is still just 24. Those two factors could send his price higher than the Rams are comfortable, especially after he struggled to find his place in the offense this season.

In theory, one of the benefits of the ZBS is that you can find smaller, more mobile OL who aren't necessarily as coveted. I certainly wouldn't say no to any of the elite guards - whether in the draft or FA - but it would be nice to find one or two values along the line.

I'm hoping this is the where are two third round picks or later come into play unless they can move down at one for more picks then Braden Smith becomes interesting late first/early second for me.

Yeah, that was my thinking. That late-second, early-third seems to be an area where a lot of the better centers and the second tier of guards tend to wind up. Unless we use that first pick on OL, I think we have to use one of our three picks in that range on in interior OL.

Some interesting nuggets. Sammy Watkins expected to get the tag. They seem confident in resigning Trumaine Johnson, let’s see if he’s smart and let’s the market come to him. Also possibility Quinn gets cut because the savings would be about $10M. He’s 27 and can rush the passer when healthy.

Star Lotulelei - DL - Panthers
The Charlotte Observer believes the Panthers will have a tough time re-signing impending free agent DT Star Lotulelei.
The Panthers gave fellow DT Kawann Short a big-money deal last spring, and Lotulelei is coming off arguably his worst season. Last summer, the Observer believed Lotulelei's future would depend on Vernon Butler's 2017 play. The 2016 first-rounder took a (small) step forward. Veteran Kyle Love is also signed cheaply for 2018.

Allen Robinson - WR - Jaguars
Impending free agent Allen Robinson (ACL) expects to be healthy and able to pass a physical before free agency opens in March.
Robinson was able to undergo surgery just days after tearing his left ACL in Week 1, suggesting the injury was a clean tear. Even though it is unlikely he will be 100 percent by the time free agency opens on March 14, this injury should not seriously damage his market. Robinson is likely looking for something close to the four-year, $58 million deal Davante Adams signed with the Packers in December.
