That's 24+ games worth of suspensions so far...as a 25-year old.

Sweet! Now, if nobody else offers him a contract, his only choices will be the Niners or no income. Easy choice.

I'd offer him a 2-year deal, though. That would be the perfect, buy-low situation.

Sam Darnold - QB - Trojans

NFL.com Analyst David Carr believes that USC QB Sam Darnold will be the best quarterback to ever come out of USC.

USC has had it's share of quality players -- and busts -- to play the position at the NFL level, but Carr thinks Darnold is talented enough to be the best from the school. "Darnold possesses several different qualities that will allow him to break the "struggling USC quarterback" mold," writes Carr. "The most apparent attribute Darnold possesses is his ability to go above and beyond the play call and transcend the Xs and Os. Leinart couldn't do that in the NFL." Expect Darnold to go in the first five picks come draft day, and there's a very good chance he'll be the first player selected on April 26.

Fit and replacements aside, $5.676 wouldn't even put him inside the top 20 in the league.

Wow. Reid has the worst agent ever. You don't put out a number you'd accept; that's negotiating 101.

That's like answering, "How much are you willing to spend?" when a car salesman comes to show you a car. :nonono:

He's going to play next year IMO. But someone's gonna get a bargain. Hope it's the Niners.

Damn, wanted Reid back. Really like him and how he played down the stretch. That would be missed if we don't get him back.

I don't think this is a clear indication that he won't be back. On the contrary, I think it's a sign that he very well could be back. I don't think anything gets done before the draft, given that two of the guys we could very well take at 9 are safeties, but if we don't add a safety and/or a WLB in the first two days, and he hasn't signed elsewhere, I think there's a decent chance Reid returns. And given it's a one-year deal, I'd probably take him back at that price. He may not be a starter, per se, but we've got a couple players with injury histories on the back end, and Reid could see plenty of snaps as a fifth DB or that hybrid LB/S spot.

On a related note, reports that the Bengals' owner told Reid that he would prohibit kneeling. If that's the case, I don't see Reid going there. He may not kneel next year based on some comments he's made, but he's not likely to go somewhere if they tell him outright that he cannot do it.

I feel bad for Reid. From everything I know about him, he's a smart, stand-up guy who is well-respected by his peers and a true leader. He wrote a very thoughtful op-ed in the NY Times about his decision to kneel, the motivations behind it, and his intentions in doing so. Although I respect and support players' decisions to express themselves, and Kaepernick's role in initiating the protests, I wasn't always a fan of how he handled the protest (sitting apart from his teammates initially, wearing the pig/cop socks a few days after the story started getting wings). Reid has been the more productive advocate IMO, and if you actually listen to him express his views instead of giving in to the knee-jerk condemnation, I don't think there's a whole lot that's extremely offensive or disagreeable in his position. He's also clearly good enough to start in this league.

Colts also signed Kenneth Acker, formerly of the Chiefs/Niners.

I don't think Dez has a ton left, but he is still a legit red zone threat. For that reason alone, I would at least consider it.

have to consider it. Wouldn't offer him max money but we're still cap friendly and he would a "potential" added skill to the WR group/offense.

I've said my pieces on Dez and repeated them quite often over the years so I'll stay away from the good/bad but getting into what I think the discussions with Shanahan might be like I would guess is he would not receive a strong recommendation from Shanahan based on his WR preferences and system fit when it comes to the struggles Dez has had with his route running and his overall lack of commitment to become a technician, especially as he's gotten older and the special physical gifts have decreased a little bit.
For those reasons I do not think Shanahan would be Dez's best fit on many levels.

The small part of me that still gets emotional about this side makes me a little bit sad because of what I once thought of Dez but the educated and overwhelming side of of me says he's not and wouldn't be a great fit for the 49ers other than for some of the between the 20s size monster stuff.
